Top 10 Creative Horror Movie Weapons

It’s just not a horror movie without some crazy weapons, are we right? Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’re counting down our picks for the top 10 creative horror movie weapons.

For this list, we’re focusing on the most creative, most eye-catching and most memorable weapons used by the heroes or villains of our favorite horror films to dispatch victims. The gorier the better!

#10: Cotton Candy Ray Gun
“Killer Klowns from Outer Space” (1988)

This flick’s got a whole slew of ridiculous weapons, but the cotton candy gun takes the taco. When the titular clowns arrive on earth, they use colorful ray guns to encase their victims in large cotton candy cocoons. As their helpless targets decompose into liquid, the clowns then drink the remains for energy in a cartoonish parody of classic sci-fi films. You might just prefer funnel cake after watching this one!

#9: Pogo Stick
“Leprechaun” (1993)

Before he was paying visits to the hood, the Leprechaun was on the lookout for his gold, wreaking havoc in pawnshops’ always home to quality weapons. In true horror flick fashion, the little guy sneaks up on his prey, surprising the proprietor and using a pogo stick to bounce on the man’s chest repeatedly – with all the glee of a demented child. The Leprechaun’s light singing makes for a sweet contrast to the sound of shattering bone.

#8: Power Drill Guitar
“Slumber Party Massacre II” (1987)

Question: If you’re a serial killer, how do you upgrade your outdated drill weapon? Answer: you attach it to the end of a badass guitar. And “Slumber Party Massacre II”’s faux-Elvis killer makes excellent use of it. Not only does The Driller Killer drill through unfortunate partiers, he also breaks off into musical numbers complete with choreographed dances. With great dual uses, the power drill guitar serves as the quintessential excessive ‘80s slasher weapon.

#7: Jackhammer Stake
“From Dusk till Dawn” (1996)

Sometimes, resources are limited, and arsenals need to be put together from whatever’s at hand. Trapped in a desert strip club where the customers aren’t just unfriendly, they’re vampires; George Clooney and friends ransack the place for possible materials. They emerge with several, but the jackhammer stake is most impressive, even though it’s basically just a massive jackhammer with a stake at the end. This work of engineer-like ingenuity serves Seth well; plowing through vamps left and right.

#6: Microwave
“Gremlins” (1984)

When mischievous gremlins invade suburbia, a number of practical home appliances take on murderous implications. However, it’s a new use for a cooking device that turns the most heads. Cornered by the gremlins in her kitchen, Lynn Peltzer sprays one of them with flea repellant and shoves it into the microwave. What results is a disgusting entree more disastrous than your latest attempt at heating lasagna.

#5: Lawnmower
“Dead Alive” (1992)

Lionel Cosgrove finds himself in an awkward situation when his mother becomes a zombie and infects the neighbors. So what’s a poor boy to do when the creatures show up in force during a housewarming party? Why, slaughter them with a lawnmower, of course! Hoisting up the mower and shoving it against the onslaught makes for perhaps the bloodiest scene on this list, a scene that helped propel Peter Jackson’s little movie into cult fandom forever.

#4: Machinegun Leg
“Grindhouse” (2007)

The advertising for this flick featured the gun-leg, and boy, does it ever deliver. In horror vet Robert Rodriguez’s half of this exploitation double feature, dancer Cherry Darling loses her right leg to zombies during a chemical outbreak. Undaunted, love interest El Wray offers her an assault rifle as a substitute. Cherry immediately takes to it, shooting rounds of ammunition and even grenades against zombie foes in an explosive finale where logic comes second to thrills.

#3: Vagina Dentata
“Teeth” (2007)

Folk tales of sexual caution come to life with this savagely funny film. When abstinent Dawn O’Keefe’s boyfriend rapes her, she realizes that her loins host a sharp set of teeth that will devour any unwanted invaders. Empowered by the revelation, Dawn uses he vagina dentata to take revenge against a number of men who have mistreated her, in a body horror tale where sex is literally a weapon.

#2: Chainsaw Hand
“Evil Dead II” (1987) / “Army of Darkness” (1992)

Horror fans have seen the hand substituted for menacing weapons before, after all, who can forget “Candyman”? But hooks ain’t nothing compared to this. When common man Ash Williams loses his hand to demons, he gets the wise idea to replace it with that ol’ horror favorite, the chainsaw. What follows are some truly epic moments of Deadite busting and one-liner spitting. Hail to the king, baby!

Before we slice and dice our final pick, here are some honorable mentions:
- Puzzle Box: “Hellraiser” franchise (1987-)
- Garage Door: “Scream” (1996)
- Basketball: “Deadly Friend” (1986)
- Tanning Bed: “Final Destination 3” (2006)

#1: Clawed Glove
“A Nightmare on Elm Street” franchise (1984-)

No other horror villain is as associated with such an original weapon as Freddy Krueger is with his clawed glove. Suitably creative and absolutely chilling, the glove provides an eerie visual, be it lurching out of a bathtub or slicing across boiler room pipes. Krueger’s glove allows for endless unforgettable murders, from simple slashing to injecting deadly heroin. An undeniable part of Freddy’s legacy, the clawed glove is our top creative horror weapon.
