It’s the often-controversial quiz that we can all sing-along to. Welcome to WatchMojo UK, and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the Top 10 Never Mind the Buzzcocks Moments.
For this list, we’ve gathered a glorious helping of the most hilarious and unforgettable moments from the much-love music-based panel show. With rants, raves, and sensational on-set squabbles to sort through, let’s get cracking!
#10: Simon Amstell Discussing Courtney Love
Host of the show for three short years from 2006, Simon Amstell garnered quite a reputation for rubbing guests up the wrong way. But here he takes on newly-appointed team captain, Noel Fielding, taking aim at his friendship with Courtney Love. While speaking about the former Hole singer, Amstell’s passing reference to Kurt Cobain’s suicide shocked the panel - and even prompted an on-screen disclaimer from the BBC.#9: Pete Burns Outwits Mark Lamarr
Contestants rarely fare well when they pit their wits against the regulars on this show, but Dead or Alive singer and “Celebrity Big Brother” contestant Pete Burns was well-known for his back chat and no nonsense attitude. And, in this 2002 appearance, he out-argues Mark Lamarr, leaving Sean Hughes similarly speechless. And all while a fresh-faced Kerry Katona sits on the opposite panel.#8: Planning a Pejazzle
TOWIE star Amy Childs helped bring the “vajazzle” into general public consciousness back in 2010, thanks to the reality TV show, “The Only Way Is Essex”. And during her appearance on “Buzzcocks” the following year, Greg Davies and the panel are keen to debate the fashion. However, talk quickly turns to the vejazzle’s male alternative, as Amy’s left wondering what she’s let herself in for.#7: Lorraine Kelly Spanks Noel Fielding
We’re used to Lorraine Kelly graciously waking up the nation on breakfast TV, but she raised a few eyebrows as a guest “Buzzcocks” host in 2011. The butter-wouldn’t-melt Scot took it upon herself to discipline team captain Noel Fielding by spanking him, for what she deemed to be naughty behaviour. And that’s all before she waxes Phil Jupitus, and temporarily walks out after suffering a slight wardrobe malfunction.#6: Scissors (Made of Glitter)
“Mighty Boosh” star Noel Fielding was a regular guest before he became a team captain, and the uniquely-styled comedian brought a particular brand of humour to the series - not that he and Simon Amstell always saw eye-to-eye. It’s Fielding’s selective and unusual use of language that ticks Amstell off here, and the host appears to be winning this war of words. But Noel has the final say.#5: Dappy’s Entrance
Dappy provides many memorable “Buzzcocks”, so it’s only fair that the show should spare no expense whenever he’s on - right? Here, he enters the studio suspended from wires while a ‘humbled’ Martin Freeman gives him quite the introduction. Watching it unfold, Phil’s completely nonplussed. And when the Identity Parade round rolls by, Jupitus just gives up completely. He’d clearly had too much Dappy for one day.#4: Donny Tourette Acts Up
Lead singer of the punk band, Towers of London, Donny Tourette tried too hard to seem outrageous on “Buzzcocks” in 2007. The ex-”Celebrity Big Brother” contestant sported shades for the majority of his appearance, drawing as much attention to himself as possible. But, when he inexplicably disappeared part-way through the quiz, it didn’t take much for Simon to stand in for him. So Donny manhandled the host on his return. Nice.#3: Amy Winehouse on Katie Melua
Amy Winehouse appeared multiple times on “Buzzcocks”, at various stages in her career, charming the audience with her characteristic unruly behaviour and unfiltered comments. This 2007 episode particularly caught public attention, however - not least for Amy’s comments on the then-popular singer, Katie Melua. Egged on by Simon, she also name-drops Pete Doherty, much to the host’s displeasure.#2: Huey Morgan’s Mug Meltdown
Fun Lovin’ Criminals frontman Huey Morgan takes centre stage next, for one of the tensest but funniest moments in the show’s history. Huey seemed surly throughout the Next Lines round, with guest hosts Rizzle Kicks clearly winding him up. But no one could’ve predicted what happened next. It was all fun and games until he started smashing things up - a move which only increased the ridicule aimed at him. Suffice to say, Huey scarpered as soon as the credits rolled.#1: Preston Storms Out
Today’s top moment: When Preston from The Ordinary Boys became the show’s biggest prima donna - and that’s saying something! Seeming stroppy from the start and glowering at Amstell throughout, he was irritated by his intro, and was even less impressed when Simon shared some light reading. With the host performing extracts from Preston's then-wife Chantelle Houghton's autobiography the singer stormed off in disgust. Luckily, Bill Bailey sourced a lookalike from the audience, and the show struggled on without him.Have an idea you want to see made into a WatchMojo video?
