Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re breaking down the trailer for “Obi-Wan Kenobi”.

For this list, we’ll be looking at details that stood out in Disney+’s upcoming “Star Wars” miniseries.

Did this trailer bring you back to a more “civilized age”? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!

#5: A Defeated Obi-Wan
Gone are the quick quips. The trailer shows a grim Obi-Wan traveling incognito on Tatooine, looking defeated. Ewan McGregor has described the character as feeling “broken, and faithless, and beaten” at the beginning of the series. The Jedi Order has been destroyed, and Obi-Wan is in hiding on Tatooine, tasked with watching over the galaxy’s last remaining hope - Anakin’s son Luke Skywalker. He’s seen in the trailer riding an Eopie, a mammalian herbivore native to Tatooine, and getting a ride on the back of a speeder. We don’t get to see him facing his former apprentice, but we know it’s coming, because Hayden Christensen is reprising his role from the Prequel Trilogy.

#4: A New Planet
While much of the action will take place in familiar territory, the series is also introducing a new planet. Named Daiyu, it’s glimpsed a few times in the trailer, which shows off a neon-soaked metropolis. It recalls Coruscant, but seems to have a grungier vibe. Series writer Joby Harold has said that Daiyu has “got a graffiti-ridden nightlife, and is kind of edgy. It's just got a different lane and a different feeling”. Although the trailer only gives us a few brief shots, the Empire’s Inquisitors seem to be there, on the hunt.

#3: The Inquisitors
Introduced in the animated series “Star Wars Rebels”, the Inquisitorius was founded by Darth Sidious to hunt down surviving Jedi and Force-sensitive children. They also featured in the “Darth Vader” comics and the video game “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order”. The “Obi-Wan Kenobi” trailer featured the Inquisitors as principal antagonists. We’ve seen a number of “Star Wars” characters make the jump from animation to live-action, such as Bo-Katan and Ahsoka, and “Obi-Wan Kenobi” will continue this trend. Rupert Friend will bring to life the Grand Inquisitor, and Sung Kang the Fifth Brother, both formidable villains from “Rebels”.

#2: Inquisitor Reva
The Grand Inquisitor’s voiceover features in the trailer, as he muses on hunting down Jedi while “Duel of the Fates” plays in the background. However, it’s another, new Inquisitor that features most in the visuals. Played by Moses Ingram, Inquisitor Reva, or Third Sister, was first mentioned in a 2021 issue of the “Star Wars Encyclopedia”. Ingram has said the character shares “a common dark-side goal” with Darth Vader and the Grand Inquisitor. Director Deborah Chow and writer Joby Harold describe her as “ruthlessly ambitious”. In the trailer she’s tracking her quarry through both Tatooine and Daiyu.

#1: Young Luke
“Obi-Wan Kenobi” takes place 10 years after “Revenge of the Sith”. That’s four years before “Star Wars Rebels” and nine before “A New Hope”. When asked in April 2021 if the series would include a young Luke, Ewan McGregor teased that it was “very possible”. And in the trailer, fans got their wish. In a few brief shots, Obi-Wan watches over a ten year old Luke, who’s playing at being a pilot. The trailer also included Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse reprising their roles as Owen Lars and Beru Lars, Luke’s uncle and aunt. Will we see more of young Luke? We’ll have to wait for May 25 to find out.
