#5: Her Constant Stream of Insults
As an outspoken media personality, Hopkins has laid into anyone and everyone – insulting redheads, full-time mothers, working women, people with tattoos, and more. Honestly, it might be simpler to list the groups she hasn’t targeted. Her critics accuse her of being a professional troll, deliberately stoking outrage to get attention – and if that’s true, the tactic has worked, judging by the extent of her TV and radio coverage. Interestingly (and unsurprisingly), one of the few people Hopkins has complimented is herself, once claiming that she is the “Jesus of the Outspoken” and photoshopping her face onto an image of the Virgin Mary.
#4: She’s a Homewrecker
Hopkins freely admits to ‘stealing’ married men, leading one newspaper to brand her a serial seductress. Her first husband, a millionaire businessman, left his wife and three children to marry Hopkins. Then, after he dumped her for his secretary, Hopkins was photographed having sex in a field with another married man, who went on to become her second husband. Katie is unapologetic about her behaviour though, telling critics to “get over it” and warning other women that if they don’t look after their significant others she would take them too.
#3: She’s A Snob
In an infamous appearance on ITV’s “This Morning”, Hopkins once admitted she judges other people’s children by their Christian names. It’s daytime TV gold, that still manages to incite irritation even now. As Holly Willoughby struggles for calm, Hopkins doubles down by claiming that children with names she considers lower-class are more likely to skip their homework and be disruptive in school. But, it seems Katie is not just a snob but a hypocrite too, as she takes an ill-judged swipe at parents who name their children after geographical locations.This clip will simply never get old.
#2: She’s A Chat Show Menace
That controversial appearance by Hopkins isn’t her only outing on daytime TV. Her other appearances on “This Morning” include the time she shared her views on employing overweight people, and on banning teachers from striking. Hopkins once even hosted her own chat show – the frighteningly named “If Katie Hopkins Ruled The World”… But thankfully that was scrapped after just one series due to poor ratings.Now the one-time “Apprentice” contestant springs up everywhere from “Loose Women” to “The Wright Stuff”, leading critics to complain that there’s no getting away from her.
#1: She Targets the Vulnerable
Katie is often accused of punching down, with her detractors saying that there are no depths to which she won’t stoop in search of a headline. And so, for her most controversial comments, she hones in on those most in need. She’s called dementia sufferers “bed blockers”, described immigrants as “cockroaches”, and even mocked a baby born with a serious neurological condition. Then there was the time she bullied a nine-year-old autistic girl on Twitter, calling her a “complete twat”.[3]Hopkins once also referenced the holocaust in the aftermath of the Manchester Arena bombing, leading to LBC Radio dropping her. If Katie Hopkins did rule the world, it would surely be a pretty unpleasant place.
