One of the most visited locations in Europe; Greece regularly welcomes over 16 million tourists to the country annually. What keeps visitors returning to this sunny European country is its rich history.

Within the country are found a wealth of ancient ruins that date back well over two thousand years. These ruins tell the country’s stories, and allow visitors to walk the same paths as famed philosophers Socrates and Plato. The Parthenon is one such building – an ancient temple built for the Greek Goddess, Athena.

The country’s story is also told by artifacts showcased in an underground complex. Greece is so abundant with historical relics that these pieces of art are even displayed in a few subway stations for all to admire.

Greece’s natural beauty is another tourist draw. The country’s abundance of coastline is dotted with sublime beaches. Greece is often commended for having some of the cleanest beaches in the world. Because of the large quantity of sunshine, these beaches are popular with visitors and locals alike. White sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters shine in the daylight.

Another way to take in the sunshine in Greece is by visiting one of the country’s world-class resorts. For more adventurous travelers, a boating vacation is in order. Greece borders the Aegean, Ionian and Mediterranean Seas. These bodies of water are best seen from a yacht, motorboat, cruise ship or other type of vessel.
