What is your favorite Tatiana Maslany role? Let us know in the comments.

Theater & Improv Beginnings (1995–2003)

Tatiana Maslany, born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, began dancing when she was 4-years-old. At just 9-years-old, she started acting in community theater and musical productions. The budding actress made her debut in Regina Summer Stage’s 1995 production of “Oliver!” And, in 2003, she played Mary in “The Secret Garden” at the Canadian city’s Globe Theatre.

Maslany also acted in high school plays, and later got into improvisation. She landed a few paid acting gigs while still in school, appearing on YTV kids’ programs “Incredible Story Studios” and “2030 CE.” After graduating high school in 2003, Tatiana Maslany toured with Regina’s local improv group General Fools, even participating in the Canadian Improv Games and becoming a certified improvisation trainer.

Television & Horror Films (2004-13)

When she was still in her teens, Tatiana Maslany was cast in her first feature, starring as Ghost in 2004’s “Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed.” She then moved from her hometown to Toronto at the age of 20, where she managed to be in three horror movies that all came out in 2007 — “The Messengers”, “Stir of Echoes: The Homecoming” and “Diary of the Dead.”

Maslany began a steady string of Canadian television roles, including Zeppelin Dyer in season four of the musical-comedy/drama “Instant Star.” For three seasons, she had a recurring role as cowgirl Kit Bailey on the popular family drama “Heartland.” In 2008, Maslany guest-starred on the hit show “Flashpoint,” which earned her a Gemini Award. The next year, she appeared in a few episodes of “Being Erica” as Dr. Tom Wexler’s troubled daughter Sarah. Maslany also appeared in BBC’s 2010 four-part miniseries “The Nativity,” starring as the literally iconic Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Indie Films (2009-14)

In addition to a successful career in television, Tatiana Maslany made a name for herself in the indie genre. She won the World Cinema Special Jury Prize for Acting at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival for playing Ruby in “Grown Up Movie Star.” She continued to nab acting awards on the festival circuit, including Best Actor in a Borsos Film Awards at the Whistler Film Festival for two years in a row for “Picture Day,” and “Cas and Dylan.”

“Orphan Black” (2013–17)

Without a doubt, Tatiana Maslany is best known for her roles in BBC’s sci-fi series “Orphan Black,” premiering in March 2013. The actress plays the five core clones — Sarah Manning, Alison Hendrix, Cosima Niehaus, Helena, and Rachel Duncan — as well as every other adult Project Leda clone. Maslany’s ability to not only fully embody these vastly different personas but also regularly act in scenes with “herself,” is incredible. She rightfully earned multiple Best Acting nominations, including at the Golden Globes and Emmys, the latter of which she won in 2016. She also took home two Critics’ Choice Television Awards and a TCA Award.

“Orphan Black” may be a drama, but the improv pro still flexes her comedic muscles in the show, as well as in other projects. After the first season aired, Tatiana Maslany was a bona fide star. She did a two-episode stint on the NBC comedy “Parks and Recreation” as Dr. Nadia Stasky, Tom Haverford’s love interest. Her newfound stardom continued to grow during the sci-fi series’ 5-season run. And while we’re still dying to see Maslany host “SNL”, she did land a brief spot back in Lonely Island’s 2014 digital short “Hugs” featuring Pharrell Williams.

Two years after the BBC series wrapped, Maslany lent her voice to the “Orphan Black: The Next Chapter” audio series, from 2019 to 2022. She’s also voiced other characters in their respective audiobooks, like Katniss in “The Hunger Games” franchise.

Continued Success on Stage & Screen (2016-)

The massive success of “Orphan Black” opened up several doors for Tatiana Maslany, especially when it came to American film and television. While she was still filming the series, she joined the cast of 2015’s biopic “Woman in Gold” as the younger version of Helen Mirren’s Maria Altmann. Having an extensive background in languages, thanks to her translator mother, Maslany mostly spoke German in the film.

Even though she hit it big, the actress still had a love for indies. In 2016, she starred alongside her then-significant other Welsh actor Tom Cullen in “The Other Half ,” which earned her a Canadian Screen Award for Best Actress. Three years later, she starred in Cullen’s directorial debut “Pink Wall.”

In 2017, Maslany was in David Gordon Green’s bio drama “Stronger,” the true story about Jeff Bauman, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, and his life after losing his legs in the 2013 Boston Marathon. Maslany delivered a powerfully emotional performance as Erin Hurley, Jeff’s girlfriend. A year later, she played Petra, a woman struggling with substance use disorder in “Destroyer,” opposite Nicole Kidman.

Maslany returned to her theater roots and joined the cast of Tracy Letts’ “Mary Page Marlowe” for its run at the Second Stage Theater in 2018. She was one of the titular Mary’s, playing ages 27 and 36. While she’s certainly experienced in theater, this was her first Off-Broadway play in New York. And it wouldn’t be her last in the city. That same year, Maslany stepped into the role of Diana Christensen in the Broadway production of “Network.” The play, based on the 1976 film of the same name, was led by Tony winner and TV legend Bryan Cranston in a main role.

As if 2018 wasn’t busy enough for the multitasking performer, Maslany guest starred on Comedy Central’s “Drunk History,” the educational comedy that tasks tipsy storytellers with recounting major historical moments. In the season five episode, “Civil Rights”, Maslany does a hilarious portrayal of English political activist Emmeline Pankhurst. She did another period show in 2020, though with a much different vibe. Maslany played Sister Alice McKeegan, the spirited believer leading the Radiant Assembly of God, in the first season of HBO’s drama series “Perry Mason.”

“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” (2022-) & Beyond

Tatiana Maslany has built an impressive acting career proving that she’s a chameleon. She’s dominated the stage, big screen, and little screen for more than a decade, including voicing Ollie Harper in the short-lived Paramount Plus’ adult animated series “The Harper House.” She’s also behind the voices of Queen Coranda Akrium-Tarron and Crown Princess Aja Tarron in the 2nd series of Guillermo del Toro’s “Tales of Arcadia” franchise.

But in August 2022, the incredibly talented force that is Tatiana Maslany makes her live-action MCU debut as attorney Jennifer Walters in the Disney+ comedy “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.” We just know Ms. Maslany will SMASH it.
