Tamagotchi Is Making A Comeback: New Set To Be Released Next Month

Can You Keep Yours Alive This Time?

You think the likes of Pokemon Go is exhilarating? Do you think what you shared with your Nintendog was actually love? Then you have clearly never tried your hand at a Tamagotchi!

These handheld digital pets were everywhere in the nineties. The demand and infatuation was so great that you literally had people weeping in the street after they accidentally forgot to feed their personal Tamagotchi, leading to the poor thing vanishing out of existence.

Okay, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but the important thing is that a new line of them are set to be released soon, just in time for its twenty year anniversary.

According to an article on IGN

It’s time to hatch, feed, and clean-up after your virtual pets yet again — Tamagotchi is back in honor of the toy’s 20th anniversary.

Bandai America has officially announced that a new set of Tamagotchi toys — smaller at about 60 percent the size of the toys you may remember playing with in the ’90s — will be available in limited qualities on November 5 for $14.99.

Yes, the new Tamagotchi looks very much like the original, including the device’s egg shape, with six different designs pulled from the original Japanese launch. To further evoke nostalgia, the original Tamagtochi’s packaging design has been replicated for the new line, and the toys themselves feature the original characters players could care for from the original game.

The new, smaller Tamagotchi offers a simpler experience meant to play into the nurturing loop the device is known for, with only three buttons included. Instead of paging through menus, the A, B, and C buttons are meant to make hatching, feeding, and cleaning up after your Tamagotchi easier than ever.

The intention for the simpler play style was because Bandai is hoping the new line will appeal to kids who played with Tamagotchi back in the ’90s and who know have their own, full lives to deal with.

Nostalgia is right around the corner, though who knows if it will inspire the kind of frenzy it had back in its heyday.
