Prepare To Literally Step Into The Animus
The likes of Assassin’s Creed: Origins seems to have once again lit the fire that made this franchise such a success to begin with, almost in the same vein that its predecessor Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag did. Rich with history and fantasy in equal measure, a set of investing characters and a setting unlike any we have seen before, Origins has proven to be a winner.
After such a success, it looks like Ubisoft is looking to expand the series once again by delving into the world of virtual reality.
According to an article on GamingBolt –
Ubisoft has been one of the publishers most willing to take a chance on VR â which makes sense, they always jump headfirst into new hardware opportunities â but now, it seems like they will be working on bringing a full fledged Assassinâs Creed experience to VR.
VRFocus reports that Ubisoft and Triotech will work together to bring us the Assassinâs Creed VR Experience. Which sounds wonderful, because, again, this is a franchise that would greatly benefit from VR.
âWe have watched the evolution of Virtual Reality technology closely over the last few years,â said Ernest Yale, founder, President & CEO of Triotech. âWe feel that with this solution we have a strong offering to the market when considering both the content and the technology but most importantly, the guest experience.â
âThis partnership is part of Ubisoftâs strategy to open new doors to our rich video game worlds such as Rabbids and Assassinâs Creed, enabling us to create immersive experiences for our fans while reaching out to new audiencesâ, said Deborah Papiernik, Senior Vice President, New Business of Ubisoft.
Now for the kicker- this is not a game being targeted at home VR headsets. Rather, it is a game that will release exclusively for VRCades- in this case, at the Ubisoft Center in Pointe-Claire, Montreal, Canada. So basically, you can play Assassinâs Creed in VR⦠as long as you visit Pointe-Claire in Canada.
The hope here is that it does well enough that Ubisoft looks into bringing it to home VR setups too. Given that this is supposed to be room scale, I donât think it will work on Oculus or PSVR, but definitely HTC Vive- maybe next year?
Here’s hoping that it does come to headsets eventually, it sounds like too good of an opportunity to waste. Can you imagine doing the Leap of Faith in VR?
