Will Ren Shoot Down Kirito And Asuna?
While it’s still one of the most divisive mainstream anime in recent memory, Sword Art Online has shown no signs of slowing down. Its latest flick, Ordinal Scale, proved to be a huge success, and even teased the development of a third season, which means that we can expect plenty more of OP Kirito and his seemingly unbreakable relationship with resident damsel in distress Asuna.
However, it turns out that this controversial duo aren’t the only stars of the SAOÂ anymore, as a new protagonist is stepping into the ring come this April with a brand new series that could potentially take the franchise in a totally different direction.

Good news for fans of Sword Art Online and its spin-offs: according to the show’s official Twitter feed, the TV anime adaptation of Sword Art Online Alternative Gun Gale Online will be here sooner than you think, beginning its Japanese broadcast in April of 2018.
The original Sword Art Online Alternative Gun Gale Online light novels are written by Keiichi Sigsawa, illustrated by Kouhaku Kuroboshi, and published in Japan by ASCII Media Works (a division of Kadokawa) under their Dengeki Bunko imprint. An English language version is also in-development from Yen Press, who describe the story as follows:
The fact that Kohiruimaki Karen is 183 centimeters tall has always been something she’s felt extremely self-conscious about as an introverted high school girl. But in the world of games, she can be whoever she wants to be! In the popular Gun Gale Online game, she’s Ren, a short, all pink, P90 wielding bombshell who’s aiming to win the next battle royale!
Perhaps a fresh start is exactly what SAO needs, with this alternative tale set to the lead the charge. Lets hope that Ren manages to hit the mark!
