Now that we know the live-action Gundam flick is in the middle of pre-production, fans are already speculating as to which of the iconic Mobile Suits are going to make an appearance. Will it take place during the Universal Century? One of the self-contained series like Iron-Blooded Orphans or Thunderbolt? Perhaps a totally original concept? Either way, we hope these Mobile Suits are heavily featured.

#5: Gundam Barbatos
“Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans” (2015-17)

One of the modern classics, this relic of the Calamity War trades in all manner of guns and beam sabers for cold hard steel. With massive swords, clubs and spears, Barbatos and its evolved forms have manage to wipe out entire spaceships, Graze units and hulking Mobile Frames with its absolute ferocity. If your aim is to see as much mechanical carnage as possible, then you can’t go wrong with this bad boy.

#4: Full Armor Gundam
“Mobile Suit Gundam: Thunderbolt” (2015-17)

The battle between this heavily-fortified machine and the Psycho Zaku stands as an example of one of the franchise’s most epic confrontations. With it’s numerous shields and insane amount of firearms, watching this thing tear through Zeon forces would make for a spectacular show. Given Thunderbolt’s reputation for displaying the true horrors of the 100 Year War, the Full Armour would make for the ideal poster boy should the film choose to take a more gritty tone.

#3: Gundam Exia
“Mobile Suit Gundam 00” (2007-09)

While not exactly the most lighthearted Gundam series out there, 00 is certainly praised for managing to balance epic mecha battles while maintaining a more family-friendly tone. Sure, most of the cast can across as rather uninteresting, but you know what kept fans coming back? The epicness of the Exia. Armed with its close-quarter blades and unique design, it’s the ideal war machine for a member of Celestial Being and more than worthy of being given its own flick.

#2: Char’s Zaku
“Mobile Suit Gundam” (1979-80)

Almost as iconic as the original Gundam, the crimson-clad Mobile Suit of the Red Comet proved itself to be equal to practically anything the Earth Federation threw out at him. While he’s certainly gone through a few mecha over the years, the most iconic of Char’s units is of course his Zaku, which has managed to put Amuro through a fair amount of pain. Should the original Gundam series end up being adapted, it would be a crime to not include this scarlet killing machine.

#1: Gundam RX-78
“Mobile Suit Gundam” (1979-80)

The original mecha that all others aspire to, the face of the franchise may not have all the weapons of its successors or even the best looking design, but as we saw from its brief cameo in Ready Player One, the world is more than ready for Amuro and his Gundam to light up the screen. Given its cultural impact, lets hope that the studio manages to not only nail it’s design, but also give it enough time to show off just how devastating it can be in combat.
