Top 5 Assassin’s Creed Characters

THIS…IS…UBISOFT!

Assassin’s Creed: Origins was a monumental step forward for one of Ubisoft’s flagships franchises, opening new doors for the time-spanning saga of the Assassin/Templar war, which is now set to see new light in ancient Greece. Along with the introduction of extended RPG elements, Odyssey has the potential to certainly raise the platform yet again. We’ll have to wait and see if our two new Greek heroes can rise above the rest of the other assassins, though it’s fair to say they have some stiff competition.

#5: Haytham Kenway

Such a charming man – such a shame he’s a Templar. The son of an Assassin taken at youth into the Templar Order, Haytham is most definitely a cultured person. His reasonable demeanor with colleagues and foes alike is second only to his sincere belief in the Templar way. Haytham strives for order and control in every action he takes, yet never deviates from his concern for humanity as a whole. Even when put into conflict with his own son, Haytham remains driven to achieve his goals.

#4: Mary Read

A finer pirate, and bolder personality, there may not be. A former sailor, Mary Read sought a life of liberty…which she embraced by dressing as James Kidd, an illegitimate son of the deceased William Kidd. Whether in disguise or as herself, Mary’s desire for adventure and love of life are each apparent, likely a part of her decision to join the Caribbean Assassins. She also maintains deep faith in the values of fellow pirate Edward Kenway, believing to the very end that the nobility of the Assassins would win him over. Mary’s deeds are made all the more badass when you find out she was a real life historical figure …ties to the Assassin’s notwithstanding.

#3: Altair Ibn-La’Ahad

Raised from birth to be a member of the Levantine Brotherhood of Assassins, Altair does not lack for loyalty. His skill in combat and environmental traversal, coupled with his years of training, makes him a formidable Assassin. Yet Altair’s dedication goes beyond simple physical feats; as the years wore on, he worked hard to ensure the Assassins would be able to thrive in the coming years. From his days as a Master Assassin, to his tenure as Mentor, Altair never stopped believing in the Order or its code. For that, he has our respect.

#2: Edward Kenway

Whether a privateer, an outright pirate, or an Assassin, there isn’t any doubt about Edward’s charms. Seeking to prove his worth, Edward set out to the Caribbean in 1712 and became a swashbuckling pirate. Over the course of “Assassin’s Creed IV”, Edward shows himself to be a brave man and capable captain, yet remained attached to the ideals of fame and fortune. Thus, Edward’s journey from selfish buccaneer to truly changed person is one we readily engage with, just as we engage with his more snarky and glory-seeking qualities.

#1: Ezio Auditore da Firenze

The last son of the Auditores is as tragic as he is steadfastly noble. Forced to watch his brothers and father hang under false pretences, Ezio Auditore embarked on a years-long quest for vengeance against the perpetrators. Said quest brought him into the midst of the Assassins, who in turn brought out Ezio’s selfless and benevolent nature. In his sixty-five years of life Ezio underwent truly inspiring character development – from hotheaded youth, to melancholic adulthood, to finally understanding his place in the world. Consistently a suave, good-natured and passionate man, Ezio Auditore’s legacy lives on.
