7 Things You Should Know About Metroid: Other M
The galaxy's most mysterious bounty hunter returns in her most thrilling adventure yet. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’re exploring the 7 Things You Should Know About “Metroid: Other M.”
Number 1: Franchise Shift
In a thrilling shift for the Metroid Franchise, it has undergone a massive change in direction at the hands of Tecmo’s “Team Ninja”, the studio behind the Ninja Gaiden action series.
As a result, this game is going to be very different from the first-person-based Prime Trilogy previously developed by Retro Studios.
Number 2: Plot
Distinct from the Prime prequels, Other M takes place following the final battle with Mother Brain at the end of 1994’s Super Metroid.
As the game opens, Samus has escaped the exploding Planet Zebes and awakens on a Galactic Federation ship where she receives medical treatment. From there she is tasked with answering a distress call and encounters a team of Federation soldiers that she had once fought alongside during her military service.
Saving her old comrades from an alien monster, she then leads a mission of discovery that soon unearths a looming threat to the galaxy.
Number 3: The Protagonist
Samus Aran is the most mysterious and popular female videogame heroine of all time. While her origins and back-story have remained highly speculative until now, Other M will be the first game to truly examine and reveal the woman behind the suit of Armor, and expose her human frailties.
Number 4: Setting
The game takes place in several locales within a lumbering spaceship. Throughout her quest she will venture through many self-contained bio-spheres attached to the vessel, which include a tropical rainforest, a sub-zero wasteland, and a volcanic area with scorching temperatures.
Number 5: Gameplay
Metroid: Other M is reminiscent of 2-D side-scrollers, but offers a wider area to explore, and players can switch to the game to a 3D perspective at any time.
This new game style requires the use of the Wii Remote controller held sideways. Resembling the original NES controller, players will use the simplified controls to battle enemies and navigate the expansive environments in classic Metroid fashion.
Meanwhile, pointing the remote at the screen will instantly change the perspective to first-person, allowing Samus to truly examine the environment and blast foes with ease. However, in this perspective Samus must stand her ground, as she is unable to navigate.
Number 6: Combo-Based Combat
With a focus on 3rd person action, players are able to now engage enemies in melee combat. As a first for the franchise, it adds levels of fun and engagement as players make use of its complex combo-system which relies on the use of well-timed button presses to execute lethal strikes, counter attacks, dodges and health regenerations.
Number 7: Cinematics
In addition to some of the most beautiful graphics available on the Nintendo Wii, Metroid: Other M incorporates fully voiced anime-inspired cuttscenes and a harder edge. Coincidentally, it will surely appeal to the Nintendo faithful that have been clamoring for an adult action game exclusively for the Wii.
Conclusion:
Both newcomers to the series and longtime fans shouldn’t miss the release of the latest Metroid adventure, an epic title that stands on excellent control and thrilling action, while demonstrating Nintendo’s devotion to taking their popular franchise to the next level.
