VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton
Norman Bethune was a thoracic surgeon, and a pioneer in terms of social medicine. During his tenure as a doctor in Montreal during the Depression, he often gave free medical care to the poor. This attitude led him to join the Communist Party of Canada. Also in the 1930s, Bethune traveled to Spain to lend a hand during the Spanish Civil War. It was here he invented the first mobile blood transfusion unit, which has since saved countless lives. Shortly after his stint in Spain, he ventured to China where he taught Western medicine. In this video, http://www.WatchMojo.com goes to Montreal's McCord Museum to learn more about Norman Bethune. For more information, click Here
