Welcome to Watchmojo and we can’t believe it’s been over 10 years since we’ve had a new Grand Theft Auto game but the wait for our first look is finally over. Rockstar have long been the master of the hype trailer and with the GTA6 trailer, it might just be their magnum opus. Unlike the initial reveal trailer for GTA5, which focused primarily on the many vistas of Los Santos, GTA6 instead manages to incorporate more story elements as well as introduce us to the series’ first female protagonist Lucia and her partner in crime Jason. Rockstar appears to be going for a Bonnie and Clyde crime riddled love story with much of the focus being on the duo working together.
We also get our first look at the updated Vice City which we haven’t revisited since Tommy Vercetti’s days back in the 80s and the city has certainly grown up quite a bit all while maintaining its vibrant sun-bleached streets and beaches. Rockstar are renowned for capturing the inspirations for their iconic cities and with the updated Vice City, the team at Rockstar have managed to perfectly encapsulate the Floridian lifestyle complete with its many bayous, nightlife scene as well as the bizarreness that is quintessentially Florida complete with far too many alligators and the residents being just as dangerous as the wildlife.
GTA6 looks to continue the series tradition of mocking modern times with quite a lot of the trailer being captured on the game’s version of Twitch or Tik Tok complete with captions mocking our current generations obsession with documenting absolutely everything as well as their penchant for stupid stunts just for views.
The game is also downright stunning with the many biomes for players to explore far surpassing those in Red Dead Redemption 2 in realism and immersion. The sheer number of NPCs within the environment is also incredibly impressive with every non playable character appearing completely distinct just like their real-world reflection. The sheer level of detail in the environments is unlike anything we’ve seen this entire generation so far as well as much of the trailer appears to be running in engine. Leave it to Rockstar to finally give us a true next gen experience, too bad its halfway through the console’s lifecycle but we suppose better late than never.
The 2025 release window will undoubtably be quite a letdown considering players have been waiting two console generations for the next installment, but given the game looks this impressive already, just imagine what the team could do with an extra year. Hopefully this will be the last of any leaks the team at Rockstar has to suffer and all their hard work and dedication will be rewarded in the next year. Every GTA game release is an event but given the level of hype this 1:31 trailer has generated, GTA6 will be the biggest entertainment release of all time come 2025.
