#10: A Pit of Infected “Eye of the Beholder”

Top 10 Craziest Things Characters Survived on The Walking Dead

After Travis is caught trying to escape a terrifying military base, a group of soldiers tosses him into a pit that is crawling with over a dozen Infected. He has no weapons on him, and zero backup. But what Travis lacks in preparation, he makes up for in determination. He picks up improvised weapons like exposed rebar and cinder blocks to take out the Infected. At one point he resorts to just punching them in the face. When the dust settles, Travis is the only thing left standing in the pit. His insane combat skills surprise the soldiers, who thought they were just dealing with an ordinary man.

#9: Surviving in Space “Children of Wrath”

While an intoxicated Strand is messing around with his boat's radio, he accidentally makes contact with a charismatic Russian cosmonaut named Valery Vashchenko. The Spaceman reveals that he was supposed to return to Earth three days after the outbreak started. But after being stranded in space for nearly two months, Vashchenko lost all hope of coming home. It's a miracle the cosmonaut lived so long without any support from Earth. And since we never follow up with the character, we have no idea how much longer he was able to survive. But regardless of how much longer Vashchenko lasted, his perseverance in the vacuum of space is amazing.

#8: Getting Tied Up & Left to Infected “The Code”

Top 10 Things You Never Noticed In The Walking Dead

Morgan was already having a rough day after two trucker siblings tied him up and took his weapons. But after a brewer named Jim accidentally knocks him down a hill and into a hungry horde of Infected, his bad day gets worse. Although Morgan avoids being bitten by jumping on top of a car, Jim and the truckers refuse to help him. He remains stuck for hours before he decides to jump to freedom. Morgan quickly finds a pocket knife, cuts his hands free, and uses a street sign to take out the Infected surrounding him. When Morgan catches up to the people who left him behind, they don't even congratulate him. Jim could’ve given him a beer at least.

#7: Being Too Injured to Fight Infected “End of the Line”

Fans thought “Fear The Walking Dead’s” fifth season ended with a major loss. After big bad Virginia shoots Morgan in the shoulder, she leaves him to be eaten by Infected. Unable to move or fight, he sends an encouraging message to his friends over walkie-talkie before the screen fades to black. Months after audiences saw this depressing scene, Morgan appeared alive and unwell in a new trailer. He now has red eyes, a beard, and much longer hair. This seems to indicate that Morgan has been living with a medical condition for a few months. While it’s unclear if Morgan somehow survived a bite or is suffering from the side effects of being shot, he is indisputably a strong survivor.

#6: Escaping an Inferno “Shiva”

In this season 2 episode, Daniel Salazar hallucinates that his deceased wife is alive and talking to him. She eventually encourages him to burn down the estate where the survivors are living. Daniel takes a can of gasoline into the wine cellar, lights everything on fire and stands amidst the growing flames. Since the character wasn’t seen for the rest of the season, fans assumed he had perished in the fire. But in the third episode of season 3, he returns...holding a canteen of water. Flashbacks revealed that even Daniel himself wasn't sure how he made it out of the fire with just a burnt leg. All we know for certain is that a massive inferno isn't enough to take him out.

#5: Crossing the Desert With No Supplies “Grotesque”

Everything goes wrong for Nick when he attempts to cross the desert. On the first night of his journey, a woman attacks him with a bat and separates him from his supplies. Nick’s luck gets worse on the following day when he’s chased by outlaws, is unable to find food, and has to endure a cold night. The third day of his journey sees him get bitten by a wild dog and nearly shot by outlaws again. After three hellish days, Nick passes out on the highway. Fortunately, a sudden rainfall revives Nick and motivates him to get up and find a safe place. The random storm might’ve been the only thing standing between Nick and an early demise.

#4: A Severe Plane Crash Injury “Here to Help”

Top 10 Times Alicia Went Beast Mode on Fear The Walking Dead

At the beginning of season 5, we learn that the majority of the main cast miraculously survived a plane crash. Unfortunately for Luciana, she didn't make it through unscathed. During the crash, she landed on a steel beam. Luciana's allies have to kill dozens of Infected to buy enough time to cut her loose. After being freed, she has to endure a bumpy car ride and getting the steel beam removed from her shoulder, without anesthetic. You would think an injury like this would keep Luciana on the sidelines for a while. However, she is back up and ready to take out Infected in the very next episode. It seems like the plane crash was nothing more than a minor inconvenience!

#3: Wounded & Washed Out “Sleigh Ride”

A series of betrayals and deals force former allies, Daniel and Strand, to end up on opposite sides of a dam conflict. Tensions eventually reach a boiling pitch, and they end up wrestling over a gun. During the altercation, Daniel gets shot. Before he can recover from his injury, he finds himself stranded on top of a dam that's about to explode. But he can’t get to safety in time. After the dam explodes in the finale, Daniel is completely absent from the fourth season. So it’s a complete shock when he turns up as a cat owner in season 5. At this point, we don't need to know how he survived. We're just going to assume that Daniel is basically immortal.

#2: Battling Infected With Limited Oxygen “This Land Is Your Land”

When a gigantic herd of Infected overwhelms Broke Jaw Ranch, Alicia and the remaining survivors hide in a pantry. But their relief is short-lived. They discover that their safe haven is running out of oxygen. The lack of air eventually causes Alicia to pass out. When she awakes, everyone else in the pantry is undead. Although Alicia is exhausted and barely has any air to breathe, she puts down countless Infected with a combination of knives and limited ammo. Although she’s eventually rescued by her family, that doesn't take away from what she accomplished. The fact that she eliminated Infected in such a harsh environment proved Alicia has an insane amount of strength and resilience. Before we reveal our top pick, here are a few miraculous honorable mentions. An Active Minefield “Channel 4” Hypothermia “Blood in the Streets” Alicia Gets Covered In Radioactive Fluid “Still Standing” A Bar Full of Infected “Los Muertos” A Close-Range Gunshot “Just In Case”

#1: Nuclear Meltdown “Is Anybody Out There?”

The last thing you want to deal with during a zombie apocalypse is the threat of a nuclear meltdown. But that’s exactly what our heroes have to face in a midseason finale. The only way they can get out of radiation range is to fly a plane they slapped together with a bunch of spare parts. If that isn’t enough pressure, the group also has to wait for their missing team members while a roaming herd of potentially radioactive Infected staggers towards them. Against all odds, everyone makes it onto the plane just as a cloud of radioactive smoke fills the area. Although the group will face more obstacles in the future, it’s unlikely they’ll survive anything as insane as this nuclear incident.
