Top 10 Movie Problems That Could Have Been Solved Easily

Top 10 Movie Problems That Could Have Been Solved Easily
VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton WRITTEN BY: Nick Spake
These are the top 10 movie problems that could have been solved easily. In hindsight, this could've been a lot easier. For this list, we're taking a look at major problems in movies that could've been resolved easily if the characters just stopped to think of an obvious solution. From giving the tape to someone bad in "The Ring," to giving Wonder Woman the spear in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," to going for the arm in "Avengers: Infinity War," these are simple solutions that movies just glossed over.

#10: Give the Tape to Someone Bad

“The Ring” franchise (2002-) This franchise revolves around a cursed videotape: anyone who watches it is given seven days to live. The only way to avoid this is to make a copy and show it to someone else. Of course, this means you’d be dooming whoever watches it, that is unless they make another copy and continue the cycle. Who says that you need to give the tape to someone good, though? There are a lot of criminals out there, some of which have been convinced and sentenced to execution. Why not find a way to show the copy to an inmate on death row? End the reign of terror with someone whose days are already numbered and then destroy the tape for good.

#9: Use the Book

“Beauty and the Beast” (2017) As much as the 1991 animated version is beloved by many, the 2017 live action adaptation had a few new elements added to it that created at least one easy-to-solve problem in the process. During the early stages of their friendship, the Beast allows Belle to use a magical book that lets her instantly go to a location of her desire. She chooses her childhood home, despite the fact that - after taking her father’s place - she’s currently the Beast’s prisoner for an undetermined period of time. Now that she knows of this book’s existence though, why doesn’t she go to Maurice, either immediately or in the near future, so she can get out of this predicament entirely?! Probably because the tale as old as time would end right there…

#8: Give Wonder Woman the Spear

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” (2016) Wonder Woman was one of the few bright spots in “Batman v Superman”, but the film doesn’t utilize her powers in the most effective way. When she lassos Doomsday in the climax, Supes stabs the monster with a kryptonite spear – making the ultimate sacrifice in the process, as he’s also weakened by kryptonite and can’t sustain an attack from Doomsday. Didn’t anyone think to just hand the spear to Diana, though? She’s not vulnerable to kryptonite and possesses super strength. Even if she couldn’t use her lasso and the spear simultaneously, there are a dozen ways they could’ve restrained Doomsday long enough to deliver the finishing blow. That way Superman lives and “Justice League” is like an hour shorter.

#7: Better Security

“Face/Off” (1997) In this John Woo classic, John Travolta plays FBI agent Sean Archer. To figure out where a bomb is located, Archer decides to undergo a procedure that’ll swap his face with comatose terrorist Castor Troy, played by Nicolas Cage. Believe it or not, that isn't where the film fails. No, what’s truly baffling is that the FBI leaves Troy’s hospital room with barely any security. Granted, Troy’s in a coma, but he could awaken at any time and take control of the situation – which he does. At the very least, you’d want multiple guards in his hospital room at all times. Better yet, send Troy to a remote government safe house surrounded by guards and bring the doctors there.

#6: Get Another Curse

“The Mummy” (1999) For his crimes against Pharaoh Seti I, high priest Imhotep is sentenced to endure the most atrocious Egyptian curse imaginable. First, his tongue is removed. Then, he’s buried alive in a sarcophagus as beetles slowly eat away at him. Finally, if someone reads from the Book of the Dead, Imhotep will awaken as the most destructive force on the planet. Wait… what? We get why the Pharaoh’s men would want Imhotep to suffer, but why would they use a curse that could potentially make him more powerful? They could’ve just… you know, slit his throat and called it a day. Of course, if that happened, the movie would’ve ended with the prologue. Still, countless lives would be saved!

#5: Go for the Arm

“Avengers: Infinity War” (2018) As Thanos points out, Thor should’ve aimed Stormbreaker at the Man Titan’s head. Instead, Thor merely strikes Thanos in the chest, leaving him with enough strength to snap half the universe from existence. There was a third option that really should’ve occurred to Thor, however: his arm. By severing Thanos’ left arm, he wouldn’t be able to snap his fingers or use the Infinity Gauntlet. Although Thanos succeeds, our heroes later realize that they can undo the snap by reclaiming all the Infinity Stones in the past. Even then, the Avengers could’ve saved themselves a lot of trouble if they went back to the point in time where the Reality Stone and the Space Stone were in one place.

#4: Bring Quicksilver

Bring It On Cast: Where Are They Now?

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” (2014) We all wish Quicksilver had gotten more screen time in “Days of Future Past,” not only because he was a scene-stealer, but because he could’ve resolved every problem at hand in a flash… so to speak. Seeing how this is a race against the clock to save the future, it makes sense to bring along a mutant with super speed. So, why do the X-Men have Quicksilver break out Magneto and then part ways? Bring him with you to Paris! He could’ve zoomed into the Paris Peace Accords unnoticed and snatched Mystique before she assassinates Bolivar Trask, preventing the Sentinels from becoming invincible. Clearly, Eric wasn’t interested in spending some quality time with his abandoned son.

#3: Hyperspace Ramming

“Star Wars” franchise (1977-) With the Resistance at the mercy of the First Order, Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo kicks the ship into lightspeed and charges through Snoke’s vessel. It’s a smart strategy and a cool scene, but this does poke a few holes in the past “Star Wars” movies. Was Holdo seriously the first person in the galaxy ever to think of hyperspace ramming? If taking down a flagship is that simple, the Rebel Alliance could’ve gotten a bunch of heavy cruisers and rammed them into the Death Star at lightspeed. To be fair, this would’ve been a kamikaze mission for anyone onboard, but the body count also would’ve been much smaller in the long run. “Star Trek” woulda done it.

#2: Balance Your Weight

“Titanic” (1997) Yeah, yeah, we know that you’ve heard this simple solution a million times before, but c'mon. With the Titanic submerged underwater – oh, spoiler – Jack gets Rose to a safety atop of broken piece of the ship. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough room for two… or is there? The debate rages on as to whether or not Rose could’ve scooched over for Jack, inspiring “MythBusters” to conduct their own investigation. Although Adam and Jamie had trouble sharing the board, they were able to balance it out by strapping a life vest underneath. Jack could’ve done the same with Rose’s life vest, providing enough support for them both. Rose’s heart will go on, but if only someone used their head. Before we get to our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions: Use the Teleporting Book to Save Maurice “Beauty and the Beast” (2017) Use Time Travel for Literally Everything “Harry Potter” franchise (2001-11) Superman’s Fast Enough to Turn Back Time, So Fly Faster to Get Both Missiles “Superman” (1978) Dig Under the Glass Dome (& Use Phones or Computers to Contact the Outside World) “The Simpsons Movie” (2007)

#1: Don’t Look for the Ark

Top 10 Most Relatable Teen Movie Characters

“Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981) Nobody can solve their problems by sitting around and doing nothing… unless you’re Indiana Jones. If Indy had just stayed in Chicago and taught his classes, “Raiders” essentially would’ve had the same conclusion. At the most, Indy merely delayed the Nazis from finding the Ark of the Covenant. With or without his presence, the bad guys still would’ve located the Ark, opened it, and gotten their skin melted off by the angels of death. So, when you think about it, the shootout at Marion’s tavern, the horseback chase in Cairo, Indy’s close encounter with those dreaded snakes – all completely unnecessary! “The Big Bang Theory” even dedicated an entire episode to this simple solution. Thanks a lot, Amy Farrah Fowler…
