#10: Guts

“Berserk” series (1997-)
Considering that this guy is by far one of the most badass characters to ever come out of anime, to be able to pull off his imposing nature with any degree of success takes skill. Of course, given the longevity of the series and the countless fans who have been engrossed over the decades, you can always count on seeing at least one guy at a con strutting his stuff while wielding the Dragonslayer sword. Kudos to anyone who manages to build their own Berserker armor; even if it’s just a costume, we still wouldn’t want to mess with them.

#9: Naruto Uzumaki

“Naruto” series (2002-17)
For the longest time, this knuckle-headed ninja ruled over other shonen series thanks to a mixture of crazy action and wacky comedy, and while the show itself has had its ups and downs over the years, that hasn’t stopped fans from getting themselves their own orange jumpsuits. Not only is the character relatively easy to recreate, but thanks to Naruto’s handy ability to transform himself into a female, it also gives both genders plenty of reason to choose the Jinchuriki as their character of choice.

#8: Asuka Langley Sohryu

“Neon Genesis Evangelion” (1995-96)
Foul-tempered, spunky and vengeful, all wrapped in one red plugsuit. Asuka has more than earned her stripes as an iconic female anime character, one ruled by her unyielding desire to outdo everyone around her and crush as many Angels as possible. With her school uniform proving to be just as popular, it’s fair to say that this cosplay certainly fits into the sexier category. Well, it would if we weren’t constantly reminded about what happened to her during the End of Evangelion. Some of us still aren’t over that.

#7: Daenerys Targaryen

“Game of Thrones” (2011-)
Rightful heir to the Iron Throne, rightful Queen of the Andals and the First Men, protector of the Seven Kingdoms, the Mother of Dragons, the Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, the Unburnt, the Breaker of Chains… well, now she can add breath-taking but increasingly common cosplay to her long list of titles. Daenerys has quickly become one of the most prominent and popular characters in modern television, her personal journey causing a rally of female fans to take on her elegant yet fearsome guise. They may not have dragons, but each cosplayer certainly has no lack of fire when portraying their favorite Targaryen.

#6: Poison Ivy

DC Universe (1939-)
She’s bringing sexy back, along with a lot of killer plants. While she uses her womanly wiles for evil, it’s still clear to see why fans would be drawn to this Batman villain. She takes no crap from any man, she’s a full-on environmentalist, and totally unashamed of who she is. Whether cosplayers choose to go with the classic costume, drenching themselves in conveniently placed flora or literally going green, they are bound to leave many hot under the collar.

#5: Sailor Moon

“Sailor Moon” series (1992-2016)
Fighting evil by moonlight and attending anime conventions by daylight, it’s fair to say one of anime’s most recognizable heroines will never be in short supply as far as cosplay goes. While the other members of the Sailor Senshi also get a lot of love, it’s nothing compared to their not so fearless leader. With a massive following in both the east and west, you’re bound to see many fans brushing off their skirts, grabbing their crazy long blonde ponytails and busting out those signature poses.

#4: The Doctor

“Doctor Who” (1963-89; 2005-)
You don’t know what a fandom is until you have experienced the sheer awe and devotion that is the Whovian community. Given the various incarnations of this iconic character, there are plenty of choices for fans to dress up as, and as you might have expected each has their own fierce preference. Whether it’s old school giants like Tom Baker’s Fourth Doctor or modern hits such as Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor, there will be no shortage of Time Lords at whatever convention you attend. Of course, out of all of his regenerations, none has quite managed to capture cosplayers’ hearts more than David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor. Be on the lookout for plenty of oversized coats.

#3: Spider-Man

Marvel Universe (1961-)
Apparently great power means great responsibility when it comes to nailing a costume. Of course, that begs the questions of which costume, because holy hell does old web-head have a colossal wardrobe. Whether it’s his classic costume from the comics, one of the versions we have seen on screen, the Black Suit, the 2099 suit, Miles Morales’ suit, Spider-Girl, the Iron Spider, or the Superior Spider-Man, there is literally no end to the amount of looks this guy has. Hence why we see so many wall-crawlers attending cons.

#2: Deadpool

Marvel Universe (1961-)
Just managing to outperform his fellow masked compadre, none has managed to garner so much mainstream acclaim in recent years than the Merc with the Mouth. Given how he loves nothing more than to break the Fourth Wall, it only makes sense that so many of his fans would attempt to emulate him by getting dressed up in their own tight red jump suits. Much like Spidey, there are so many alternate versions of Deadpool that it only furthers the cosplay phenomena.

Before we reveal our number one pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
- Genos
“One Punch Man” (2015-)

- Allen Walker
“D.Gray-Man” series (2006-16)

- Ken Kaneki
“Tokyo Ghoul” (2014-15)

#1: The Joker & Harley Quinn

DC Universe (1939-)
The Clown Prince of Crime and his devoted henchwoman have nearly taken out the Bat on multiple occasions, so naturally they make for the ultimate couple’s cosplay! Whether it’s just splashing on a bit of make-up or going all out, there’s no end to the number of psychotic clowns you’ll see wandering around conventions. As for Harley, her appearances in animation, film and video games have given her an ample number of enticing outfits to choose from. For better or worse, these two show no signs of slowing down.
