Top 10 SNL Stars You Didn't Know Voiced Animated Characters
#10: Jason Sudeikis
When he’s not writing, producing, or starring in his own series “Ted Lasso,” Jason Sudeikis is lending his voice to a slew of different projects. During his time on “SNL”, he pulled double duty between the sketch show and playing the voices of Holt Richter and Terry Kimple on “The Cleveland Show.” A few years later, he portrayed Red in both “The Angry Birds Movie” and its sequel. Perhaps his most well-known voiceover credit belongs to the series “Son of Zorn,” a live action animated mashup about a cartoon warrior who leaves his 2D life behind to join the real world in an effort to connect with his son, and features some of Jason's best voiceover work to date.
#9: Dana Carvey
A true chameleon, Dana Carvey can transform himself into literally anyone and sometimes, anything. The “Master of Disguise” has played a slew of voices for animated hits such as Pops in “The Secret Life of Pets” and its sequel and Dana in “Hotel Transylvania 2.” In addition, his vocal talents have appeared on television shows like “Rick and Morty” and “The Fairly OddParents.” Never knowing what to expect with this extraordinary impressionist, Carvey offers a mixed bag of wacky, memorable characters and might just be the voice that brings your next cartoon favorite to life.
#8: Melissa Villaseñor
Before she joined the “SNL” crew in 2016, Melissa Villaseñor was already making waves in the industry thanks to her flawless impressions. Taking her talents behind the mic, Villaseñor has lent her skills to projects like “Adventure Time,” “American Dad,” and “Family Guy” where she played a cartoon version of romantic comedy legend, Nora Ephron. In 2018, Melissa made her Disney debut playing Taffyta Muttonfudge in “Ralph Breaks the Internet” and followed it by appearing as Karen Beverly, a plastic knife, in “Toy Story 4.” No matter who she’s playing, whether inanimate or not, Villaseñor’s voiceovers are always top-notch.
#7: Bobby Moynihan
During his run on “SNL,” Bobby Moynihan carved out time to lend his voice to some animated favorites. In the reboot of Disney’s “DuckTales,” Moynihan assumed the role of Louie alongside Danny Pudi and Ben Schwartz who played his brothers Huey and Dewey. However, this wasn’t his first time working with Disney. In 2013, he appeared in the highly anticipated “Monsters University,” playing Chet, a frat boy. Since then he’s voiced Mel in “The Secret Life of Pets” and continues to appear on series like “Aqua Teen Hunger Force,” “The Simpsons,” and “We Bare Bears” as the character of Panda. With an expansive list of credits, it looks like Moynihan doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.
#6: Maya Rudolph
Although she’s become one of the most recognizable faces to come out of “SNL,” Maya Rudolph has also become one of the most recognizable voices. The daughter of the late singer, Minnie Riperton, who possessed a five-octave range, it’s no wonder that Maya’s voice is exceptional. From “Shrek the Third,” to “Big Hero 6,” to most recently, “Luca,” her voiceover credits are countless. However, her most well-known role is playing Connie the Hormone Monstress on Netflix’s animated series, “Big Mouth.” Following the lives of middle schoolers experiencing all the highs and lows of puberty, Connie is vibrant and brazen and it’s all thanks to Rudolph’s exquisite performance that has forever changed the pronunciation of “bubble bath.”
#5: Kenan Thompson
As the longest-running “SNL” cast member, Kenan Thompson has played a lot of parts. In between his work on the sketch show and his own series, “Kenan,” Thompson manages to squeeze in time to lend his talents to voiceover work. Joining other “SNL” members, he appeared on the short-lived animated series, “Bless the Harts,” and appeared in film versions of “The Smurfs” and “Wonder Park,” just to name a few. Perhaps his most famous appearance is playing Tiny Diamond in the “Trolls” franchise, including “Trolls World Tour” and spinoff series, “Trolls: Trollstopia.” The role doesn’t only require Keenan to speak, but also to sing and rap which proves that whenever he steps in front of the mic, he’s always prepared to go all in.
#4: Tina Fey
One of the most famous names to come out of “Saturday Night Live,” Tina Fey’s career has taken her in all kinds of different directions. In 2010, the “Mean Girls” creator teamed up with fellow “SNL” alum, Will Ferrell for the DreamWorks animated flick, “Megamind,” where she appeared as news reporter Roxanne Ritchie. Prior to that, she provided the English dubbing for a character in Studio Ghibli’s “Ponyo.” Most recently, Fey played the role of 22 in Pixar’s film “Soul” opposite Jamie Foxx. Playing the disembodied soul required Tina to tap into the depths of her imagination to bring the negative Nelly to life and created a new Disney fan favorite.
#3: Leslie Jones
Since departing “Saturday Night Live” in 2019, Leslie Jones has gone on to appear in projects like “Coming 2 America” and hosting the reboot of “Supermarket Sweep.” The hilarious comedian has also voiced the role of Zeta in “The Angry Birds Movie 2,” alongside previous “SNL” cast members Jason Sudeikis, Bill Hader, and Maya Rudolph. In addition, Jones played Meena, a singing elephant’s mother in 2016’s star-studded animated musical feature, “Sing.” While the credits keep rolling in, here’s hoping that Leslie’s impressive voiceover talents make another appearance soon.
#2: Bill Hader
While still on “SNL,” Bill Hader racked up a few voiceover credits on “South Park.” In addition to his voiceover work, Hader also served as a producer and creative consultant, appearing in the documentary “6 Days to Air: The Making of South Park,” profiling a workweek on the series. On the feature front, Hader has played roles in “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs,” “Monsters University,” and as lead Flint Lockwood in “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.” Bill also voices Fear in Pixar’s “Inside Out,” Stan in “Finding Dory,” and Axel in “Toy Story 4.” The “Barry” star will add to his roster of animated characters by appearing in “The Addams Family 2.”

She’s appeared in numerous animated flicks like “How to Train Your Dragon” and shows like “The Simpsons,” “The Cleveland Show,” and “SpongeBob SquarePants.” She even pulled double duty appearing in “Despicable Me” and returning for its sequels as an entirely new character, Agent Lucy Wilde. Most recently, Wiig played roles in “Bless the Harts” and “Big Mouth” where she continues to work with fellow “SNL” alumni and never shies away from giving it her all whether she’s in front of the camera or behind the mic.
