Top 10 Strongest Female Characters in Anime

#10: Merlin
“The Seven Deadly Sins” (2014-21)
She may be the weakest Sin in terms of physical strength, but when it comes to magical potential, the Boar's Sin of Gluttony is pretty much unrivaled. Thanks to her immense magical power and knowledge, Merlin’s acquired quite a reputation as one of the greatest mages of all time. And if her mastery of the mystic arts wasn’t enough, Merlin is also gifted with the unique skill “Infinity” which allows her to maintain even the most powerful spells for as long as she desires, as well as amplify her magical attacks. The fact that her true name alone is enough to send even the most dangerous demons running for the hills only further proves why she is a force to be reckoned with.
#9: Arale Norimaki
“Dr. Slump” (1981-86; 1997-99)
Not even Super Saiyan Gods can stop this adorable android when she goes all out. Designed to be the perfect android, minus her shortsightedness, Arale’s abilities come straight out of a gag manga, allowing her to perform feats that defy reality and render even the most serious fighters powerless. With a single punch, she can split the Earth in half, circle the globe within seconds and even send fighters as strong as Vegeta flying to infinity and beyond with her signature Arale Headbutt. Although she may be powerless against Gods of Destruction, Arale is still tough enough to fight Super Saiyan Blue Goku to a draw. Talk about a pint-sized powerhouse.
#8: Kurumi Tokisaki
“Date a Live” (2013-)
An encounter with the wrong person turned this sweet little girl into the “most dangerous spirit” alive. Known for her insanely high body count, Kurumi’s threat level is largely due to the power of her Angel which lets her manipulate time. Overall, Kurumi’s powers have over a dozen applications which include creating temporal clones to escape from sticky situations, speed up, slow down, reverse or freeze time, as well as bestow herself with foresight. While such a nigh-OP power set does require Kurumi to sacrifice her life force, she can easily replenish the time lost by stealing it from others, which doesn’t exactly help her reputation.
#7: Beatrice
“Umineko When They Cry” (2009)
There is a reason they call her the “Endless Witch.” Beautiful as she is powerful, Beatrice possesses an arsenal of magical skills that make her a force to be feared. These include the power of flight, teleportation, healing, time-stopping, barrier creation, gravity manipulation, and summoning magical servants or destructive magical constructs. But her biggest flex is that she can control life and death as easily as breathing. A feat she uses frequently when playing with human lives. With a reputation that makes her feared across Heaven and Hell, Beatrice is not one to mess with and woe to any who tries to deny her existence.
#6: Tiamat
“Fate/Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia” (2019-20)
As a primordial deity whose existence far exceeds humanity, Tiamat is as dangerous as they come to both mortals and deities alike. As one of the seven Beast-class servants capable of throwing the natural human order into chaos, Tiamat is a force of nature that seeks to wipe out mankind. Along with being virtually impervious to harm, Tiamat can also withstand attacks from divine beings, transform into a giant monster, as well as erect a powerful bounded field that negates the Noble Phantasms of servants generated from the history of mankind. The fact that the “King of Heroes” himself was forced to intervene and use his strongest treasure to stop Tiamat, is one of the many reasons that justifies her spot on this list.
#5: Madoka Kaname
“Puella Magi Madoka Magica” (2011)
In this universe, becoming a magical girl may give Kaname and her friends incredible power, but it also comes with a terrifying cost. In exchange for a wish, the mysterious entity Kyubey grants Madoka and her friends the power to fight against corrupted beings known as witches. However, should they fall into despair, they’ll transform into the very things they fight against. After discovering the truth in one particular timeline, Madoka makes her wish and becomes a magical girl with the intent of erasing all witches' past, present and future. In doing so, Madoka becomes a god-like being and succeeds not only in erasing all witches but also creates a new reality in the process.
#4: Altair
“Re: Creators” (2017)
With the infinite power of human imagination, Altair could potentially destroy the world. Originally a fictional character, Altair's desire for revenge following the demise of her creator gave her the strength to break the barriers between fiction and reality to wreak havoc on the real world. Things only get more dire after it's discovered that Altair draws on the power of all fanfiction and media content related to her to develop new abilities. So far, her arsenal of powers includes rewriting reality, rewriting the history of other characters, as well as manipulating the laws of cause and effect. With so many OP powers at her disposal, Altair’s ability to grow and evolve is virtually limitless.
#3: Haruhi Suzumiya
“The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya” (2006; 2009)
It is best to stay on this high schooler's good side, unless of course, you want her to destroy the universe. And no, that is not an exaggeration. Obsessed with discovering the paranormal such as aliens and espers, Haruhi often drags her classmates, and fellow members of the SOS Brigade, along for the ride. It’s thanks to these kinds of extraordinary activities that Haruhi entertains herself, which is exactly what those aware of her true power want. In reality, Haruhi possesses the power to manipulate reality and even create alternate ones. What’s even more shocking is that Haruhi is not even aware of this power. Hence, why keeping her entertained is vital, as it can mean the difference between erasure and survival.
#2: Haruka
“Noein: To Your Other Self” (2005-06)
She may be just a kid, but for certain factions fighting a pan-dimensional war across different time-spaces, her power can literally change everything. Also known as the “Dragon Torc,” Haruka is a powerful young girl whose unique gift allows her to warp reality on a multiversal scale. These include the power to will anything or anyone in or out of existence, as well as create a new reality that conforms to her desired vision. With so much potential for change hidden within her, it’s only natural that the forces of La'cryma would want to use her to save their dimension from an even bigger threat.
#1: Lord of Nightmares
“Slayers Next” (1996)
When it comes to dealing with things beyond mortal understanding, messing with the “Lord of Nightmares” ranks pretty high on that list. Although she is the creator of the Four Worlds, she is largely unpredictable and some claim that she seeks to end her creations and return everything to her true form, the Sea of Chaos. As both a creator and a destroyer, the Lord of Nightmares is all-knowing, all-powerful and impervious to all forms of harm. Additionally, the ultimate spells Ragna Blade and Giga Slave draw on her massive power. What’s more, if the latter is cast improperly, the caster will end up channeling the Lord of Nightmares herself through their body, causing all hell to break loose.
