If you’re going to take part in the King of Iron Fist Tournament, you better know who up against. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the top 10 Tekken characters. For this list, we ranked the most popular Tekken fighters, based on fan popularity, backstory and technique. And just so you know, we’re not ranking these characters based on who you should pick to compete in a tournament, because everyone has their own different fighting style.

#10: Eddy Gordo

Sometimes simple really is better. Eddy has been shunned by pro’s for being a bit too easy to use, but we think they’re mostly just jealous, since his capoeira skills are certainly to be feared. His back story for the series involves him trying to get revenge for his murdered parents, and you certainly wouldn’t want to be the one towards whom he directs his wrath. Break yo-self.

#9: Hwoarang

Next up is another fighter seeking revenge. After Ogre kills his Tae Kwon Do teacher Baek Doo San, he joins the tournament to give the villain what’s coming to him. Luckily for him, before his teacher died, he taught his student quite well, and he uses his martial arts skills for blazing fast kicks and rapid speed. Not content to just have one enemy, he also becomes a rival of Jin Kazama, when the two reach a draw in a street match.

#8: King

One look at this lucha libre wrestler’s terrifying jaguar mask is enough to make you think twice, but facing his moves is even worse. His professional wrestling past gave him impressive skill with different types of throws, including chains throws, duck throws, ground throws, and more. He got involved with the King of Iron Fist tournament in the hopes of using the prize money to build an orphanage, but his rivalry with Armor King became too fierce for him to leave.

#7: Heihachi Mishima

Don’t be fooled by this guy’s age—he’s still one badass fighter. As one of the main antagonists of the series, he often sets its events in motion, like when he first announces the tournament in order to test his son, Kazuya, though we’ll see later who got the last laugh. Still, his powerful punches and kicks are always to be feared, and his twin tufts of hair never cease to amaze.

#6: Nina Williams

The terrifying Irish assassin was so good at dispatching victims that she was hired during the first tournament to kill Heihachi. Though she failed, she wreaked plenty of havoc while she was there, and she’d come back to the tournament again and again. Her Hapkido fighting moves, which give her strong jabs and quick reflexes, help her to always be a threat.

#5: Paul Phoenix

We wouldn’t recommend taking on this guy unless you have the strength of a bear. Even then, you’re not necessarily in great shape, as his rival Kuma repeatedly learns the hard way. He’s a rugged American fighter trying to become “The Toughest Guy in the Universe,” and it’s hard to imagine someone questioning his claim on the title. His fighting style is based on judo, but he adds his own flair to make himself a one-of-a-kind force to be reckoned with.

#4: Marshall Law

On top of having a name that’s one of the great puns in video games, this character is directly inspired by Bruce Lee, and even wears his yellow jumpsuit from “Game of Death,” so you know he’s not the type of dude you want to mess with. When he appeared in the first game, he looked like a near-perfect facsimile of the famous martial artist, and he even made similar sounds when he attacked. On top of being a powerful fighter, he’s a dedicated sensei who first enters the tournament in order to get money to start a dojo.

#3: Yoshimitsu

Though several characters have appeared in the series under this name, they all fight using the ninjutsu style, they all have excellent sword skills, and they’ve all got prosthetic arms that strike fear into the hearts of enemies. He leads the Manji Clan, and he lends his efforts to further their mission of helping the weak. The first incarnation of the character joined the tournament as a decoy to allow others from his clan to steal the tournament’s funds, but he quickly became a fixture in the series.

#2: Kazuya Mishima

This character was the series’ first protagonist, and he made for a perfect early icon. He started fighting in the tournament to get revenge on his father for throwing him down a cliff, but he quickly proves that his desire to fight comes from more than just a grudge. He’s not the easiest character to use, as the commands required to make him work well are precise, but combo moves like the Electric Wind God Fist definitely make him worth learning. Before we get to our number one, let’s take a look at our honorable mentions: Asuka Kazama Jun Kazama Lei Wulong Lili de Rochefort Bryan Fury

#1: Jin Kazama

This character got nerfed quite a bit as the series progressed, but that still wasn’t enough to keep him from topping our list. His grandfather Heihachi trains him to enter the tournament, and he initially hopes to avenge his mother’s death. However, once Heihachi tries to steal the Devil Gene from his body, Kazama finds a new target for his fury. With moves inspired by his father, Kazuya, and his mother, Jun, he becomes a nearly unstoppable force. Do you agree with our list? Which fighter did you use when you wanted to kick ass?
