Top 10 Times Meredith & Cristina from Grey's Anatomy Were BFF Goals
They aren’t just best friends, they’re soul mates. Welcome to MsMojo and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the Top 10 Times Meredith & Cristina from Grey's Were BFF Goals.
For this list, we’re looking at ride or die friendship moments between Meredith and Cristina in the intense medical drama known as “Grey’s Anatomy.”
#10: Corset Cut
"Didn't We Almost Have It All?"
Cristina experienced every bride’s worst nightmare when Burke broke up with her right before the ceremony. Luckily, Meredith was there to help her get her through it like no one else in this dark moment. When Cristina discovers that Burke’s things are missing from their apartment she starts having a panic attack, and her tight wedding dress certainly wasn’t helping. Meredith grabs a pair of scissors and cuts the the dress up without hesitation, bringing Cristina in for a hug. A friend gives you a shoulder to cry on, but a best friend destroys your wedding dress when the moment calls for it.
#9: Drunk Baseball
“Put Me In, Coach”
Baseball may be America’s pastime, but it’s not really Meredith or Cristina’s thing. While the rest of their team are killing themselves trying to win, they are out in the field talking medicine and life, as you do, and getting drunk with a not-so-subtle flask. The two have crazy mood swings that include, but are not limited to, giggling inappropriately, picking fights with Bailey and generally being a hilarious mess. After the baseball game is called on account of violence, the rest of the team joins in, and a night of revelry is had by all.
#8: “I Love You, Cristina Yang”
“Now or Never”
Working in a hospital can really put what’s important into perspective. Everywhere Cristina and Mer look, there is tragedy and loss. Even though they like to act tough, it teaches them to embrace the happy times and tell people you love them when you can. Meredith and Derek are planning to get married in the midst of Izzie’s illness and patients dying, as everyone needs a little love right now. So when Meredith looks directly at her best friend and says “I love you, Cristina Yang”, Cristina’s reaction is just the sweetest. Her entire face lights up and she even gives Mer a hug.
#7: Saving Derek & Owen
“Death and All His Friends”
Cristina and Meredith’s friendship is a bond formed by fire, because you need to be tough to survive what they’ve been through together. When a shooter targets the hospital, Derek and Owen are both shot and it’s up to Meredith and Cristina to save them. Cristina manages to save a critically injured Derek despite having a shooter pointing a gun at her head and Meredith treats Owen’s shoulder while having a miscarriage. They sacrifice a lot to save each other’s partners, with Cristina even suffering from PTSD afterwards, which Meredith helps her through.
#6: Ouch
"Some Kind of Miracle"
A really pivotal moment in their friendship was the time Meredith briefly died from drowning and Cristina coaxed her awake. Derek got her out but she was gone, and it took a lot of people and work to get her breathing again. Everyone was relieved that Meredith was alive but the next question was... would she still be Meredith? Brain damage was a real concern, so when Mer started waking up, Cristina was impatient for her to talk. All Mer could manage was a weak “ouch”, which may not sound like much - but it’s exactly what Cristina needed to hear.
#5: “He’s Not the Sun”
"Fear (of the Unknown)"
It’s not uncommon for people to completely lose themselves in a relationship after they put all of their focus on their partner and place their personal goals on the backburner. Cristina doesn’t want this to happen to Meredith though, and since she’s leaving for Switzerland, she uses her parting words to give Mer an amazing pep talk. She reminds Mer how amazing she is as a surgeon and tells her that while Derek may be cute, but he is not the sun - Meredith is. We may not all get amazing pep talks from Cristina, but everyone deserves someone like that in our lives.
#4: Surviving a Plane Crash
“Flight”
It’s no secret by now that these two have survived a lot of things together. Not a lot of friends can say that they survived a plane crash, or want to for that matter, but it brought these two closer together. With death and destruction all around them they kept each other sane, and even performed emergency surgery on the crash site. They manage to use this dark moment to double down on how much they mean to each other. These women are survivors and together they can literally take on anything. Though it would be nice if they could enjoy a relaxing vacation somewhere, without any natural disasters or emergencies some day.
#3: Legal Guardian
"She's Killing Me"
Cristina may not come across as the most maternal person on the planet, but she’s the one Meredith wants looking after her children if something happens to her. What Meredith is asking is huge too: she’s asking Cristina to take responsibility for human lives, to raise and nurture them and turn them into productive members of society. Despite it being such a big responsibility, Cristina doesn’t hesitate to accept. She doesn’t want to be their Mom though, so they settle on Cristina getting the kids three weeks a year with travel, tattoos and condom demonstrations.
#2: “My Person”
Various
Everyone needs that person in their life, someone they can be dark and twisty with and someone who will have their back no matter what. It’s no secret that Meredith and Cristina are each other’s person, and if you want to be a part of their lives you had better understand that. Many a man tried to come between them, and those men have always failed. Derek was smart and knew when to give them time together. This isn’t some silly inside joke! They mean business: when Cristina says that Meredith would help her hide a body, she means it! They have a ride or die friendship that is both intense and real.

#1: Dance it Out
Various
When life gets you down and it feels like too much, you just gotta dance it out! Between the plane crashes and the heartbreak, these two, more than anyone, need a way to vent out their frustrations. They created the “dance it out” method where they put on a good tune and dance like no one is watching. Sometimes they invite friends, sometimes the dancing is accompanied with liquid courage, but they’re also not afraid to do it sober either. They started doing it early on in their friendship, but it’s also the last thing they did before Cristina left for Zurich.
