10 Mysterious UAP Revelations of the Last Decade

Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the most mysterious and most significant UAP revelations of the last decade.

#10: UAPs in Iraq

A running theme with UAP sightings of late is that they appear to be especially common around US military locations. Either that, or around nuclear power stations. For example, in 2016 and 2018, there were two headline-grabbing cases in Iraq. Evidence of the first was only released to the public in January 2023, by the UFO investigators Jeremy Corbell and George Knapp. Dubbed the Mosul Orb, it can be seen in an eerie, 4 second clip, floating over the streets of the Iraqi city of Mosul. The second, while it dates back to 2018, was only released to the public in January 2024 - again by Corbell. Dubbed the Jellyfish, it was recorded hovering close to an active American military base in Iraq.

#9: UAPs in the Pacific

Another emerging trend with modern day UAP sightings is that so many of them happen over water, and particularly over our largest oceans. The summer of 2019 was an especially unusual time for US Navy ships operating in the Pacific. For example, footage was released of a UAP event dating to July 15th 2019, during which an apparent swarm of flying objects was seen to briefly swirl around the USS Omaha. According to reports, there were at least ten similar sightings between March and the end of July that year, involving at least seven US warships. Some cases seemingly could be explained - such as the UAPs being drones controlled by a nearby suspected Hong Kong spy ship. However, not all of the somethings over the Pacific have been accounted for.

#8: UFOs Flood Brazil and Japan

The whole of 2020 proved another interesting time for UAP sightings. It was when the COVID pandemic was at its height all over the world, but in other news there were a lot of unexplained happenings in the sky. In Brazil, one night in May, over the municipality of Magé, to the north of Rio de Janeiro, a sudden onslaught of multicolored lights was spotted by multiple people - with a rush of videos trending for a short while on social media. In Japan, after a slew of UAP events in the summer, the government created a list of stringent protocols for reporting UAPs going forward, in one of the first moves of its kind around the world. Meanwhile, in the US, the first sightings of the so-called Jetpack Man were lodged. To date, Jetpack Man has been spotted on at least five occasions, flying over Los Angeles. The FBI says this bizarrely-shaped UAP is probably a novelty helium balloon blown off course… but not everyone’s buying it.

#7: The Unshrouding of AATIP

Until recent times, UAPs were universally known as UFOs… and the topic was unfortunately dogged by stigma. The feeling really started to change, however, when, in December 2017, the New York Times, the Washington Post and Politico all published stories revealing the existence of an until-then classified UFO branch in the United States government, called the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (or AATIP). The program ran across the Bush and Obama administrations, between 2007 and 2012, and required state backing to the tune of more than $22 million. It was started by Senator Harry Reid, and it worked in collaboration with a number of private aerospace firms - including Bigelow Aerospace. One Luis Elizondo famously claims to have been a leading figure in AATIP, but we’ll speak more about him later in the video.

Note for VO - AATIP is pronounced A-Tip

#6: GIMBAL, GOFAST and Tic Tac

At the same time as the revelations around AATIP were first unveiled, the New York Times and the Washington Post also released what have become generally known as the Pentagon UFO videos. The Times dropped the GIMBAL and FLIR/Tic Tac videos, while the Post published GOFAST. All three clips were made by US military personnel, and all showcase unidentified objects that apparently travel in impossible ways. The pilot David Fravor had captured the FLIR/Tic-Tac video in 2004, while he was investigating radar anomalies near the US Navy aircraft carrier, the USS Nimitz, off the coast of California. For GIMBAL and GOFAST, the UAP had been recorded in 2015, close to the USS Theodore Roosevelt, which was operating off the East Coast, in the Atlantic Ocean.

#5: The 2021 UAP Report

In truth, the long-awaited Preliminary Assessment [into] Unidentified Aerial Phenomena didn’t exactly live up to the hype. It was an official report issued in June 2021 by the Office Of The Director Of National Intelligence, and represented a breakthrough moment at which the US government publicly acknowledged and addressed multiple UAP claims. It was an unprecedented move at the time, brought about largely by growing public pressure in the wake of the likes of GIMBAL, GOFAST and Tic Tac. The nine-page report, though, contained… nothing much. Nevertheless, it is remembered for its role in ushering in a new era of UAP awareness. And, in terms of revelations, there were some. Including that 143 of the 144 UAP cases covered by the report were officially considered to be unexplained.

#4: David Grusch's Testimony

On July 26th, 2023, the UAP phenomenon reached Congress. David Grusch is a former member of the US Air Force and a former intelligence operative. But now he’s turned whistleblower. Among the claims that Grusch has laid against the US government (or certain branches thereof) are that there is a long-running, deep-rooted UFO coverup conspiracy coursing through its heart. First, he spoke to journalists working for “The Debrief”, and shortly thereafter he was questioned at an explosive congressional hearing. Grusch said that there exists a highly secretive UAP retrieval program within the US government, and that certain groups have in their possession multiple objects - including crafts of non-human origin - as well as the corpses of deceased UAP pilots. He further claims that incredible pressure is placed onto anyone who ever tries to speak out about UAPs, including alleged threats to life.

#3: Luis Elizondo's Testimony

Jump forward a year, to November 2024, and UAP was again the hot topic on Capitol Hill. During the second major UAP hearing, Congress heard from Dr. Tim Gallaudet (a retired Rear Admiral with the US Navy), Michael Gold (a former NASA advisor), Michael Shellenberger (an investigative journalist), and Luis Elizondo. Again, Elizondo claims to have been a major figure in the now defunct Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program. As the whistleblower he is now, he didn’t hold back. Elizondo told Congress that “[a]dvanced technologies not made by our Government – or any other government – are monitoring sensitive military installations around the globe”. He also said that he believes “we are in the midst of a multi-decade, secretive arms race” relating to UAP. Elizondo continued by saying that, over the course of many years, “excessive secrecy has led to grave misdeeds” within government… and “all to hide the fact that we are not alone in the cosmos”.

#2: The New Jersey Drones

Right off the back of the second congressional hearing in November 2024, the New Jersey Drones represented an apparent explosion of UAP activity toward the end of the same year. Beginning in New Jersey, but spreading to other surrounding states, and indeed to other locations across the world, there was a huge spike in apparent drone sightings over towns and cities, over rural and urban areas. In most cases, local government sought help and clarification from federal authorities, but to little effect. Night after night, drones of various shapes and sizes were spotted by residents, but without any explanation. Unsurprisingly, speculation grew. On the lighter side, some believed the drones were the work of hobbyists as part of an elaborate hoax. One of the darker suggestions, though, was that they were instead controlled by the US government, and scanning for a lost (and potentially highly destructive) weapon of some kind.

#1: Immaculate Constellation

On paper, and without context, the presence of the journalist Michael Shellenberger at the second congressional hearing on UAPs… might’ve seemed a surprise. But, actually, he was one of the main draws. In the weeks prior to the hearing, Shellenberger had published a story relating to yet another whistleblower who had spoken to him, again insisting that parts of the US government are deliberately (and illegally) covering up the truth about UAPs. At the heart of Shellenberger’s scoop were revelations about an Unacknowledged Special Access Program reportedly called Immaculate Constellation. This is said to be a huge database of UAP cases and materials - including high quality footage and images - but it’s entirely unknown to all but a very select few people. Ultimately, the existence of Immaculate Constellation is a groundbreaking revelation in itself… but looking forwards, it could yet prove to be the catalyst for countless more revelations to come.
