Kicking off our list is the is the electrifying amount of Christmas spirit the Gremlins bring old Mrs. Deagle. Supercharging her chair lift, the Gremlins send the creepy cat lady on quite a ride. Unlike the torture porn of modern horror films, this one doesn’t rely on blood and gore, and actually looks kind of looks fun, well…expect for the last part.

This beer run goes bad when a young lady finds herself cornered in the garage with Ghostface. At first she thinks it’s all one big joke, before getting a reality check. While she manages to put up a decent fight with the freezer door and a few beer bottles, it’s her ill-conceived escape plan that’s her final undoing. I guess they don’t have a very big dog…

In this space age installment of the dead teenager series, the un-killable Jason Vorhees has been finally captured and placed in cryogenic suspension. In the year 2455, Jason is found and taken for a ride in a spaceship manned by the unluckiest crew ever. The most notable victim has to be his first, with whom Jason chooses to share his freezing experience. This is definitely the most bone-chilling kill ever. Oh yes, pun intended.

This flick contains a laundry list of unlikely of horrors after plants decide to fight back with a chemical that makes people off themselves. And you thought poison ivy was bad. As you can imagine, the results of this biochemical assault are pretty terrifying. While people casting themselves from buildings is downright horrific, it’s this guy who chooses to have a lawnmower run him over that makes fearful of yard work to this day.

While the series is already known to be all about the unexpected coincidence kills, in this case it only solidifies an already deep mistrust of tanning beds. In this instance, Death has decided to make use of a broken mantelpiece, a Slush drink, electrical box, air conditioning, a coatrack, potted plant and falling shelf to cook these girls alive. Ya…I’m just gonna skip the beach this year.

When this woman is attacked by a flesh-eating Zombie, she tries block the door with by herself before using the furniture. Allowing herself to take a moment to relax, right beside the door, the zombie bursts through and grabs her hair. Pulling her through the opening, she gets a shard of wood in her eye. Damn it woman! Use your hands! Do something!

When an alien shape shifter finds its way to an American research base, it systematically multiplies and kills everyone in the most horrific ways possible. When a team member seemingly has a heart attack, the doc jumps into action trying to revive his comrade. Unfortunately for him, it’s a ruse. If the doc survived getting his hands bitten off, there’s now way he survived Kurt Russell’s flamethrower.

Freddy is the baddest mother to ever sport a fedora and stripes. A killer who exists in the dream world, he can only harm you while you’re catching some Z’s. One of his most harrowing and creative kills was in the original film, when he sucked Johnny Depp into the his mattress, before spitting him back up all over the room. Notice that we didn’t have to actually see Johnny go for the scene to be scary.

#2 - Head Explosion “Scanners” (1981)

What kind of list would this be without a head exploding? A staple of the horror genre, its best done here with a long build up as a telepath, played by Michael Ironside puts on his freakiest concentration face. Yeesh, I would never let that dude near my head. In case you’re curious, the effect was achieved by blasting a prosthetic filled with meat using a shotgun.

You knew it was coming, and here it is! This iconic horror movie kill for takes the top spot for being a timeless classic that manages to blend in some pretty heavy allusions to rape. Nothing can come close to the sheer horror of birthing a Xenomorph through your chest. Interesting fact, this scene is totally organic, having been shot with actual guts from a butcher shop.
