#5: The Main Cast Will be Back Except for One Person
Since the first film’s release, fans have poured over details about the cast members and created a fandom around them. Sadly, Princess Audrey, the daughter of Aurora and Prince Philip, will not be one of the characters coming back for the “Descendants” sequel. The actress who portrayed Audrey, Sarah Jeffery, confirmed that she wouldn’t return, but still wished the returning cast the best of luck on Twitter. Rumors have swirled about the reason for her departure, but from what it sounds like, she didn’t choose to quit of her own volition. Oh well, playing the descendant of Sleeping Beauty can be exhausting work anyway.
#4: The Tracklist is Available Now
While the actual movie doesn’t premiere until July 21st, 2017, the first single and tracklist were revealed months earlier, in April. The list of songs gave fans a few hints about what they could expect from the upcoming sequel. It looks like we’ll be getting some “Little Mermaid” references, as both “Kiss the Girl” and “Poor Unfortunate Souls” will be featured in “Descendants 2.” Meanwhile, an official video for the album’s promotional single, “Ways to Be Wicked,” has been viewed over 40 million times on YouTube. Way to put a spell on audiences.
#3: The Characters Will Look a Little Different
Now that set photos and videos are being released from “Descendants 2,” fans have gotten a glimpse of what their favorite characters will look like in the upcoming film. The costume department has clearly been working hard because everyone’s outfits are amped-up and look better than ever. Most notably, Mal’s signature violet locks have gotten a trim and some bold straight-across bangs. Since it has been said that the plot will be a little darker in the second instalment of the series, it makes sense that all of the costumes are a bit more edgy.
#2: Kenny Ortega Will Be Directing Again
While a few things will be different in “Descendants 2,” one thing that will remain consistent is the artistic vision. Kenny Ortega, who directed the first movie, will be reprising his role. Ortega’s background is primarily in choreography, which makes him such a perfect fit for the franchise. His directorial résumé also includes titles such as “Hocus Pocus,” “Newsies,” and all three “High School Musical” movies. Did we mention he’s even worked with several musical acts on major concert tours? No wonder Ortega’s Disney’s go-to guy for TV movie musicals.
#1: China Anne McClain Will Be In It
Aside from the characters we already know and love, there will be two notable additions to the cast of “Descendants 2.” First, there’s China Anne McClain, known for her role on Disney’s “A.N.T. Farm,” not to mention several feature films. She’ll be playing a character named Uma, who is the daughter of the evil sea witch Ursula. She had already given voice to Freddie in the computer-animated spinoff, “Descendants: Wicked World.” A second addition is Thomas Doherty, who will be taking up the role of Harry Hook, Captain Hook’s son. With these two onboard, it’s safe to say that the Descendants are headed for some hot water.
