Star Wars: A New, New Hope?
Look, it’s no secret that the Star Wars prequels were, uh, shall we say, controversial. The rabid fanbase complained about everything from the plot, to the plot holes, to the story to the dialogue. . . you get the picture. George Lucas really did a number on his reputation with the whole trilogy. But, to be fair, there was one casting choice that met with almost universal acclaim:
We keed, we keed. Â The real triumph was casting this suave and skilled Sottish swordsman as one of the Star Wars universe’s most beloved characters:
Indeed, Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi was by far the best thing about the prequels. After all, it takes big cojones to step out of THIS guy’s shadow (do Jedis actually have shadows?)
Help us, Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re our only hope
But the long-rumored, and long-anticipated news has finally come, there WILL be an Obi-Wan flick.
THESE AREN’T THE CASTING CHOICES YOU’RE LOOKING FOR
Here’s the thing, tho. Ewan McG hasn’t actually confirmed his return yet. Or that he has even been asked. WHAT IF THEY CAST SOMEONE ELSE?
BUT, thankfully, this is what he had to say in a 2016 interview when asked whether he’d be interested in such an opportunity:
Iâd very much like to do one too. I think the story between Episode III and Episode IV, I think thereâs a story there. I think thatâs the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, if there is one. The one that bridges my Obi-Wan Kenobi and Alecâs Obi-Wan Kenobi because thereâs aâI donât know how long heâs in the desert there, but itâs got to be twenty or thirty years. Iâm not sure Iâm at liberty to say, really, but Iâm very interested in doing that. That would be great. Maybe thereâs even a trilogy!
So if we all think really hard about it, Â and send positive vibes out into the universe, maybe we can “FORCE” him to say yes. Right?
