Jaden Smith Joins All-Star Cast in Neo Yokio
A Netflix produced anime series created by the guy from Vampire Weekend starring the likes of Jaden Smith as a young demon-slayer and Jude Law as his robot butler.
Yes people, this is actually happening.
According to an article on IGN –
The city of Neo Yokio is “the most populous urban agglomeration in North America”, and “a diverse labyrinth of cultural and architectural innovation at the forefront of global fashion and finance”. Jaden Smith plays the central character, Kaz Kaan, the youngest member of a family of magic-wielding demon-slayers known as “magistocrats” – who apparently “liberated the city” at some point prior to the start of the series. Although he continues to slay demons at the behest of his Aunt Agatha (Susan Sarandon), Kaz is more interested in field hockey – as well as “mending his broken heart”.
Accompanied by his friends Lexy and Gottlieb (comedy duo The Kid Mero and Desus Nice) and his mecha-butler Charles (Jude Law), Kaz spends his days trying to navigate Neo Yokio’s complex cultural and social scene, his life made more complicated by his arch-rival – and Neo Yokio’s “number-one eligible bachelor” – Arcangelo Corelli (Jason Schwartzman).
The arrival of ex-fashion blogger Helena St. Tessero (played by real-life former fashion blogger Tavi Gevinson) takes Kaz’s life in a new and mysterious direction; as Kaz is drawn further into Helena’s world, he will find himself questioning everything he knows about the city of Neo Yokio.
Created by Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig, Neo Yokio has been commissioned for a six-part series, written and executive produced by Koenig and Viceland’s Nick Weidenfeld (under the banner of his Friends Night production company).
All six episodes will launch globally Friday, September 22, exclusively on Netflix.
This truly sounds like something that has to be seen to be believed. Maybe it will manage to exceed our expectations by either being surprisingly good or entertainingly awful.
