Zone Of The Enders Reboot Scheduled For 2018

Hideo Kojima + Mecha? Hell Yes!

The mastermind behind the Metal Gear Solid series certainly knows his stuff when it comes to giant engines of destruction. Just take a look at the likes of Metal Gear Rex, Ray and Sahelanthropus if you have any doubts!

But before the likes of Venom Snake was trying to shoot down that colossus, Kojima actually lent a hand to another game that focuses on giant robots. A long forgotten gem known as Zone of the Enders.

Don’t worry if you haven’t heard of it, because it is about to make a hell of a comeback!

According to an article on Gamesradar

You probably know Hideo Kojima for his work on the Metal Gear Solid series – but way back in 2001, he helped produce the PS2 mech combat game Zone of the Enders. And now, the cult classic is coming to PS4 and PC in spring 2018 with visuals remastered for 4K resolution, new audio design, a VR mode, and a fancy new title.

If you’ve never heard of the game before now, don’t feel bad. The series was a bit of a non-starter. Oh sure, the first entry sold well, but that was probably helped by the inclusion of a demo disc for the highly-anticipated Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. The game received one sequel, a Game Boy Advance spin-off, and a limited anime series.

It was also ported to the PS3 and Xbox 360 in the Zone of the Enders HD Collection, but this version was poorly-received due to shoddy performance and visual issues. In fact, reception to the HD Collection was so bad that plans for a third entry – which would have been rendered in the Fox Engine – were shelved. All in all, the story of ZoE is not too dissimilar from that of the Silent Hill franchise (or at least its ending isn’t).

But who knows, maybe that can all change with ZoE: The 2nd Runner – Mars. Increased resolution, HDR support, new visual effects, better audio, and a VR mode sure sound tempting enough for me. How about you?
