Education and Explosions?
Well, here is a combination we never expected to see.
Michael Bay, the man who gave us giant robots, an orgy of explosions and more up-skirt shots than any Hollywood filmmaker in recent memory, is now allegedly serving as the producer of a new, live-action version of Dora the Explorer.Â
We need a moment to process this.
According to an article on IGN –
A movie based on the long-popular Nickelodeon series Dora the Explorer in the works thanks to Nick Stoller and Michael Bay.
Bay is producing the film, while Stoller has been brought onboard to write the script. The Hollywood Reporter’s story does not indicate whether or not Stoller will direct, but, as he has experience in that area, it would not be surprising if it ended up being the case.
Dora the Explorer aired on Nickelodeon for 172 episodes from 2000 until 2014. The show focused on Dora, a seven-year-old girl who went on adventures with her monkey, Boots. She was notable for speaking in both English and Spanish at a time when that was not common on children’s programming in the United States. While the show was animated, the film will be live action.
The report is that Dora won’t be seven, but will instead be a teenager who has moved to the city to live with her cousin Diego.
Stoller has some adult fare in his filmography. He’s written or directed such films as Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek, and both Neighbors and its sequel. However, Stoller also wrote and produced The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted, and he recently wrote the Captain Underpants movie. Bay is, of course, known for the Transformers series and a litany of other action movies.
The Dora the Explorer movie is expected to be released in 2019.
Prepare yourselves people, because this adaptation could be the weirdest thing 2019 has up its sleeve. We are really hoping Dora doesn’t fall prey to Bay’s more notable filming tendencies.
