Co-Creator Is Eager To See “Monster” Venom
While he’s wildly known and praised for introducing us to the unstoppable character of Spawn, Todd McFarlane also has plenty of other nerdy accolades to his name. One of them just happens to be a helping hand in the creation of one of Spider-Man’s greatest enemies.
With the solo Venom movie looming overhead, the comic book creator gave his two cents on the film. After all, it’s going to be a flick about the web-head’s nemesis…set in a world without said web-head.
According to an article on IGN –
Venom co-creator Todd McFarlane believes Tom Hardy will “do a good job” playing the character in the upcoming Venom solo movie.
In an interview with ScreenGeek, McFarlane shared his thoughts on Hardy being cast as Venom and what the actor could potentially bring to the role.
âItâll be interesting,” said McFarlane. “Iâve seen some movies of his where he can bring anger and a wide personality to it. To me, I think Tom Hardyâs going to be as good as whatever Venom looks like. We all know Tomâs going to act. Heâs going to do a good job. So now whatâs Venom gonna look like?”
Though McFarlane has confidence in Hardy’s ability to pull off Venom/Eddie Brock, McFarlane is more curious about how far the filmmakers will push the adaptation into R-rated territory that Sony is reportedly aiming for with the film.
“Itâs an R-rated movie, how ‘R’ are they going to go,” McFarlane asked. “To me, thatâs the question. Are they going to go a ‘little bit R’? Venomâs a monster to me, and to me â are they going to make him a monster or are they going to make him a man? Are they going to humanize him? Thatâs what we gotta find out.â
Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer is directing the movie, which has been described as a horror film take on the Venom character, with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg writing the script.
Reports suggest the movie will allegedly include Carnage as the main villain and, according to producer Amy Pascal and Sony Pictures, Venom will be separate from the MCU, instead kicking off Sony’s Marvel Universe. This new group of films produced by Sony also includes the upcoming Black Cat and Silver Sable film.
Venom will open in theaters on October 5, 2018, with production set to begin next month. Along with Hardy, the film will also reportedly star Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, and Jenny Slate.
Just as long as we don’t get this, we are still somewhat optimistic.
