James Earl Jones Is Back!
To many, The Lion King is the quintessential Disney film. One that should never be touched or adapted in anyway whatsoever. Just so long as you ignore its terrible attempts at sequels…
However, after hearing the news about the casting for Jon Favreau’s upcoming adaptation, and after seeing how well he tacked The Jungle Book, we have to say we are oddly optimistic. After all, going by his choice of actors, we might be in for quite an entertaining flick!
According to an article on GameZone –
The official cast list for the live-action(ish) adaptation of The Lion King has been revealed! The list confirms that the rumor about Beyonce joining the cast as the voice of Nala has turned out to be and the rest of the reveals have been cemented in stone.
While Disney has not made any footage of the upcoming The Lion King available, but they have shown some of off during D23 and ComicCon. According to reports, the ‘live-action’ adaptation is more of a ‘realistic CGI animals on real environments’ live-action movie.
Alfre Woodard, the original voice of Simba’s mother in the animated The Lion King, will reprise her role, Donald Glover will play Simba, James Earl Jones will reprise his role as Mufasa, John Oliver will voice Zazu, Seth Rogen will voice Pumbaa the Warthog and Billy Eichner will voice Timon. Chiwetel Ejiofor is in talks to voice Scar and Beyonce will voice Nala.
Well, we can now certainly expect to hear a more soulful version of Can You Feel The Love Tonight courtesy of Beyonce, Donny Glover is a cinematic diamond so he should have no problem with tackling Simba, John Oliver as Zazu is practically Rowan Atkinson reincarnated, and are we the only ones who are thrilled that the original voice of Mufasa is back?!
…Oh damn now we have to sit through his death again.
