Don’t Mess With The Avatar
While many would agree it didn’t quite reach the caliber of it’s predecessor The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra still found its way into the hearts of fans through its four seasons of epic action, intriguing philosophy and beautiful visuals. All of this helmed by a hot-headed Avatar whose quest to restore balance was quite a sight to be behold.
Plus, it had some pretty awesome fight scenes!
In order to celebrate Korra’s trials and triumphs, we’ll be counting down what we believe to be the best moments from across the entire series.
As a result, you can expect to see some MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!
#5: Korra and Aang
The conclusion to the first season was already dark as could be. After all, Korra had apparently lost her ability to bend and we just saw Amon meet his end via a murder-suicide courtesy of his brother. Not exactly smile worthy. And then she finds herself coming face to face with Aang. Not only does he restore her bending, but just seeing the two Avatars together is all kinds of awesome.
#4: Korra and Asami
Yeah you knew this would be here. It’s only on screen for a couple of seconds, but for many this was an extremely important moment. It was a rather tranquil way to end the series, especially after such a brutal fight against Kuvira, but to see an LGBT moment of such significance unfold on screen made it all the more touching. Sorry Mako.
#3: Everyone vs. The Colossus
While not exactly a complex villain like Zaheer or Kuvira, the Colossus might just have been the most dangerous adversary that Team Avatar ever faced down. It easily destroyed Republic City and seemed impervious to all bending. Teamwork ultimately won in the end, but it can’t be said that each action scene wasn’t filled with tension and desperation as the mass murder machine drew nearer.
#2: The Beginning
Probably the best thing to come out of the lacklustre second season; to see the origins of the first Avatar was a treat we were not expecting. The mythology, the distinct animation style and just watching Avatar Wan create the legend we all had come to know was breathtaking at times. It’s kind of a shame that we didn’t see more!
#1: Venom of the Red Lotus
Zaheer and his allies were a lethal group of villains that earn their place as some of Avatar’s best, with their master plan proving to be so vicious that prior to the defeat they left an enormous body count behind them. Heck they even asssinated the Earth Queen in a manner that was excessively brutal, especially for a kid’s show. However, it pales in comparison to their scheme to take down the Avatar. What follows is a rather uncomfortable scene where Korra is poisoned to the point where she loses her mind. While the Red Lotus are ultimately defeated, it still leaves our heroine as a shell of her former self.
