Promotion For New Magical Girl Anime Is Seriously Creepy

That’s One Way To Get People Talking About Your Series

While there is still room for the more traditional series like Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura, for a new anime to make it big or at least make a significant impact in the magical girl genre, there has to be some kind of twist or extra dimension to it.

And from the way the upcoming Magical Girl Site is going about it, it seems to have decided to leave its mark by giving us as much disturbing imagery as possible…

According to an article on Crunchyroll

A site and Twitter feed has launched for the spring 2018 TV anime adaptation of Kentaro Sato’s Magical Girl Site, a 2013 spin-off of his dark Magical Girl Apocalypse manga. The series follows a bullied girl who is welcomed into the violent work of magical girls by a mysterious web site. And, for fans of Sato’s work, the visual is every bit as off-putting as you might hope.

Scheduled for spring 2018, animator Tadahito Matsubayashi steps up to helm the doA production with Takayo Ikami (Beautiful Bones: Sakurako’s Investigation, episodes of Watamote) writing.

Seven Seas is releasing the series in North America:

Asagiri Aya is a young girl who has fallen victim to bullies at her school. Looking for a way to escape her troubles, she looks to the internet for distraction, when a mysterious website called “Magical Girl Site” appears. Simply viewing the page there, it’s fight or die, against a seemingly endless array of savagely adorable, frilly-skirted killing machines, each armed with magical powers and an unquenchable thirst for blood and chaos.

Does this mean we are getting the Madoka Magica treatment here? On the outside it’s going to have its moments of fluffiness but as soon as you get past episode one the whole thing is going to take a dive towards unsettling content?

We can’t wait.
