2017 was certainly an amazing year for anime. We could talk for hours about how genre conventions were subverted or how animation reached new heights in regards to both fight scenes and the conveying of character’s innermost thoughts. But nope, today its all about which waifu reigned supreme!
Whether for their undeniable charm, unique tendencies or how they overcame personal obstacles, these ladies managed to rise above the others as standout figures of last year’s anime.
#10: Nina Drango

You won’t find a more chipper girl in the entire kingdom. It’s just a shame that every time she looks at a hot guy she risks transforming into a dragon.

What? You thought you couldn’t find yourself rooting for a sadistic lolita psuedo-Nazi armed with a magic rifle? You’d be dead wrong.

The second best chef at Totsuki Academy is a femme fatale no matter which way you look at it. With a bottomless appetite for food and excitement, she’s more than happy to throw herself into the role of villain for the thrill of it.

“Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor†(2017)
Prideful, noble and just as about as cute as you can get, the White Cat finds her world turned upside down when the most unorthodox of magic instructors enters her life.
#4: Sagiri Izumi

The series might be at the pinnacle when it comes to trash, but we can’t deny that Sagiri’s impact and now iconic dance moves have carved a place for itself in modern anime culture.

Known to history as Jeanne D’Arc, this overseer of the Great Holy Grail War may have had her heart in the right place, but is totally unprepared for the rampart chaos brought about this calamitous conflict.
