Top 10 Games That Aren’t As Good As You Remember Them…

When players first got their hands on these ten titles, chances are they had a memorable gaming experience. Heck, some of them still hold up pretty well to this day. That being said, they aren’t quite as amazing as we recall. Whether due to controls, narratives or the fact later entries in their respective series completely overshadow them, these are the golden oldies whose polish has worn a little thin over time.

#10: “Grand Theft Auto III” (2001)

It had some great ideas, but the technology of the time prevented this particular GTA from standing shoulder to shoulder with its other masterful counterparts.

#9: “EverQuest” (1999)

It had to go up against World of Warcraft, so it didn’t really stand much of a chance…

#8: “Tomb Raider” (1996)

Lara may be iconic, but terrible controls and over-pixelated environments didn’t exactly provide the strongest opening.

#7: “Pokémon Red, Blue & Yellow” (1998/99)

It introduced us to the original 150 Pokemon, but it’s fair to say that every sequel and remake managed to improve on the formula drastically.

#6: “Double Dragon” (1987)

Even in the classic days of side-scrolling arcade beat em’ ups, these two dragons didn’t have as much bite as others in the genre.

#5: “Battletoads” (1991)

Whatever fond memories you may have for this game will soon be swallowed up by its insane difficulty setting.

#4: “Mass Effect” (2007)

It may have started one of video game’s greatest trilogies, but compared to its epic sequels Shepard’s first adventure fell a little short.

#3: “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune” (2007)

The gunplay is frantic and Drake is as cocky as ever, but we doubt you’ll be able to play this game again without longing for Among Thieves and A Thief’s End.

#2: “Star Wars Battlefront II” (2005)

Its far and away better than its modern iteration, but in other ways felt very much like a carbon copy of the original Battlefront.

#1: “Sonic Adventure” (1998)

It’s certainly not as awful as lot of Sonic sequels, but what in the hell was up with those manic controls and glitches?!
