Top 3 Records “Black Panther” Has Already Broken

The release of the MCU’s “Black Panther” on February 16, 2018, was certainly a legendary (and profitable) one for Marvel Comics. The film has already broken several box office records, and continues to climb in revenue and popularity. While we acknowledge there are others, and that more will surely be achieved, here are three records “Black Panther” has already broken so far.

#3: “Black Panther” surpassed Captain America: Civil War as Marvel’s biggest first day  film ticket pre-sale

According to Forbes, “Black Panther” surpassed Captain America: Civil War, which previously held the record for the biggest ticket pre-sales in the first 24 hours of any Marvel film. This came as no surprise, as the anticipation and social media presence for the film was extremely high.

#2: “Black Panther” is the biggest solo superhero launch of all time:

Black Panther surpassed the record held by “Iron Man 3”, according to Forbes, which garnered $174 million in its opening weekend. “Black Panther” topped that with a whopping $235 million, according to Variety. “Black Panther” just keeps shattering records across the board.

#1: The film is the biggest-grossing movie directed by a black filmmaker in North America

Perhaps the most significant accolade of all, “Black Panther” set a record that proves that representation in film is not only important, but can be extraordinarily profitable, according to the Verge. Preceded by the success of DC’s “Wonder Woman”, which had the most successful box office opening weekend of any film directed by a woman, “Black Panther’s” success is a testament to the widening spectrum of superhero films, and the weight of diversification and representation.
