Top 3 Reasons to Be Excited For Lost in Space Reboot

Running from 1965 to 1968, Lost in Space stood out as one of the era’s definitive sci-fi programs, chronically the intergalactic adventures of the Robinson family. The series is undeniably dated in some respects (heck, it takes place in the year 1997). Even with its cheesy effects and corny dialog, though, the show still has an unmatched retro charm. At least that’s more than can be said about the 1998 film adaption with Joey from Friends.

Almost twenty years after that less than stellar film, the Robinson family is getting a reboot via Netflix. Here are three reasons why you should be excited for the new Lost in Space series.

3. The Epic Trailer

The opening moments of the show’s trailer establish an adventurous sense of optimism, as if the characters are wandering towards a better tomorrow. Once the Robinsons board their ship, however, it becomes evident that they’ll soon been thrust into chaos. It’s like waiting in line for Space Mountain or Star Tours at Disneyland. The trailer suggests that this series will also have the whimsical thrills of a theme park ride. Hearing a robot say, “danger, Will Robinson,” is just the cherry on top.

2. The Gifted Cast

At the head of the Robinson family are Emmy-nominee Molly Parker (House of Cards, Deadwood) as Maureen and Toby Stephens (Black Sails) as John. Newcomers Taylor Russell, Mina Sundwall, and Maxwell Jenkins play the Robinson children while Ignacio Serricchio stars as a smuggler named Don West. In a reverse of genders, Parker Posey will also appear as Dr. Smith.

Sounds like a great lineup, assuming Posey doesn’t turn into a CGI spider creature.

1. A Game of Thrones Director is Involved

Behind the camera, Neil Marshall is set to direct several episodes. Marshall is best known for his work on Game of Thrones, directing the game-changing episodes Blackwater and The Watchers on the Wall. He’s also currently helming the upcoming Hellboy reboot. With him involved, we’re confident developers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless will bring Lost in Space into the 21st century.
