Nobody Messes With An Elder Lich!
This frightful feast of a fantasy anime’s second season is well underway, and already has given us everything from valiant knights to talking penguins and even reptilian coitus. As to be expected. Of course, amidst all the hilarity and adorable Albedo moments, Overlord has managed to retain its pedigree when it comes to fight scenes. With video game inspired combat that seems to have no limits, we’ve seen quite the collection of RPG-esque battles, and are bound to see plenty more before the season’s conclusion.
With that said, which of Overlord’s crazy clashes were the best? We certainly have a few treasures to choose from, but its fair to say that these three stole the show!

#3: Zaryusu and Shasuryu vs. Cocytus
By this point, we had somewhat become endeared to the Lizard Men. For all intents and purposes they were now the psuedo-protagonists who were forced to face off against the main character’s crew. It was a battle they were never going to win, but we still held out hope. Then along came Cocytus, who showed his strength by annihilating the Lizard Chieftains with but a single weapon. Things may have worked out in the end thanks to Ains’ decision to resurrect the whole lot of them, but the fight was still a bloody one that nonetheless surprised us with its ferocity.
#2: Ainz Ooal Gown vs. Clementine
Revenge is sweet. After the psychotic Clementine slaughtered Ainz’ fellow travelling companions in a rather gruesome display, he decides to give her a taste of her own medicine. Watching Clementine’s cocky persona shatter as she finds herself unable to harm the Ruler of Nazarick is a delight to watch, though even we couldn’t help but wince when he decided to end her by literally squeezing her to death. Ouch.
#1: Ainz Ooal Gown vs. Shalltear Bloodfallen
After being mysteriously manipulated into becoming an enemy NPC, Ainz has no choice but to battle his own Floor Guardian in an all out magical brawl. This is Overlord at its best, showing off Ainz’ intellect as a gamer as he manages to outpace and outmanoeuvre Shalltear by using everything from cash shop items to a whole barrage of OP abilities. He even summons a freakin’ sharknado!
