Christopher Robin Trailer Brings Winnie the Pooh to Life

Ewan McGregor previously appeared as Lumière in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast remake. Although his character was primarily CGI in that film, McGregor will get a lot more face time as the titular character in Christopher Robin, which hits theaters on August 3, 2018.

Not to be confused with the 2017 biopick Goodbye Christopher Robin, this Disney film will put an entirely new spin on A. A. Milne’s classic books. In the film, Christopher Robin is now an adult with a wife and children, although he’s really married to his stressful job. Having lost his sense of wonder, Christopher is visited by an old friend from his childhood.

The teaser trailer reunites Christopher Robin with Winnie the Pooh, who has never looked more stuffed with fluff.

Disney has brought the Hundred Acre Wood gang to the silver screen a couple times over the years with 1977’s The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and 2011’s Winnie the Pooh. Where those were animated features, though, Christopher Robin will mix live-action and CG effects. Of course this isn’t the first time Winnie the Pooh has been brought to life. Does anybody remember the Welcome To Pooh Corner television series?

Following in the footsteps of Sterling Holloway and Hal Smith, legendary voice actor Jim Cummings has been providing Pooh’s gentle voice since 1988 and will reprise his role in Christophe Robin as well. The rest of his Hundred Acre Wood friends will reportedly be voiced by big name celebrities, however, with Brad Garrett as Eeyore, Sophie Okonedo as Kanga, Peter Capaldi as Rabbit, Nick Mohammed as Piglet, Toby Jones as Owl, and Chris O’Dowd as Tigger. While none of them appeared in the trailer, you might’ve noticed Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter, Cinderella) as Christopher’s wife.

Between Paddington 2 and now this, 2018 is shaping up to be the year of adorable bear movies. Christopher Robin isn’t the only Disney throwback coming out this year either. Mary Poppins Returns, which premiered its first trailer during the Oscars, hits theaters on Christmas Day.
