She’s Here To Bring Balance And Kick Ass
Whereas Aang’s mesmerising and masterfully told story introduced us to the world of the Avatar, its sequel gave us a hero’s journey that not only served as a more than worthy series successor, but also a new lead who could not be more fundamentally different from her spiritual counterpart. And she was awesome!
Not only did she have to face off against a whole slew of new enemies, this impossibly stubborn Avatar had to overcome several painful real-world issues such as segregation, politics, fanaticism and adolescence, all culminating in a series that while arguably falling just short of The Last Airbender’s more cohesive narrative, was still a joy to behold. As such, we’ll be looking at Korra’s most iconic moments.
Ready your pro-bending gear and prepare for MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!
#3: Korra and Asami
Itâs only on screen for a couple of seconds, but for many this was an extremely important moment. It was a rather tranquil way to end the series, especially after such a brutal fight against Kuvira, but to see an LGBT moment of such significance unfold on screen made it all the more touching. Sorry Mako.
#2: The Beginning
Probably the best thing to come out of the series’ lacklustre second season, getting to witness the origins of the first Avatar was a treat we were not expecting. The mythology, the distinct animation style and just watching Avatar Wan create the legend we all had come to know was breathtaking at times.
#1: Venom of the Red Lotus
The Red Lotus were a lethal group of villains that earned their place as some of the franchise’s best, with their master plan proving to be so vicious it’s almost uncomfortable. In order to end the Avatar Cycle for good, Korra is poisoned to the point where she loses her mind. While Zaheer and his cronies are ultimately defeated, it still leaves Korra shell of her former self, paving the way for to her to make quite the journey of self-discovery.
