He’s More Than Just A Cocky Treasure Hunter
Let’s be honest, you can’t even bring up the name Nolan North without immediately thinking of the Uncharted series’ resident protagonist. While we doubt we’ll ever get over just how awesome, hilarious and unlucky the likes of Nathan Drake is, the veteran voice actor has a laundry list of other roles under his belt, some of which we feel deserve a tad more attention!
We loved his taken on both Deadpool and The Penguin, Spec Ops: The Line’s Captain Walker made us question our own sanity, and we still haven’t recovered from his eerie performance as David in The Last of Us. As spellbinding as all these were, we have to cast our gaze elsewhere in this instance, over to some smaller yet oh so significant roles that cements Nolan’s place as one of the best actors in this gloriously nerdy industry!
#3: Raphael
“TMNT” (2007)
Quite possible the best thing in this film, Nolan’s take on the hotheaded turtle was perhaps the darkest portrayal of the character in any medium. Moonlighting as the vigilante known as the Nightwatcher, Raph’s rage and aggression was on full display as he beat down every foe in his path without restraint. This all lead to a bitter confrontation with his brother Leonardo, and we’re not kidding when we say Nolan’s delivery here is somewhat chilling…
#2: Doctor N. Gin
“Crash Bandicoot” series (2005-08)
Many have worn the mantle of Doctor Cortex’s right hand man, but few have managed to bring the laugh’s quite as hard like Nolan’s interpretation. From Crash Tag Team Racing all the way Mind Over Mutant, the nonsensical and hilarious drivel that comes out of this psychotic villain’s mouth is pure gold. Let’s hope that if any of Crash’s other games get remastered in the future, they bring this particular version of N. Gin back!
#1: The Boss
“Saints Row IV” (2013)
Best. Voice. Option. Ever. While the majority of his lines are relatively the same to the other actors (save for a few glorious exceptions in which he references himself) the fact you even have a “Nolan North” voice option to begin with is too awesome for words. As expected, he nails the part of the Saints’ leader, blending together charm, crudeness and sociopathic tendencies to give us a character that you’ll never get tired of causing widespread destruction with.
