Will They Follow The Path?
The Witcher series will undoubtedly go down as one of the best video game trilogies of all time, especially since the third entry raised the bar beyond belief in terms of content and spectacle. Of course, such a revered fantasy property was bound to catch the eyes of studios eventually. In this case, it just so happened to be Netflix, who announced their plans to adapt Geralt of Rivia’s misadventures early last year.
While the showrunner and producers have gone on to state that the focus will be on adapting author Andrzej Sapkowski’s original novels rather than the games, fans still can’t wait to see the White Wolf unleash steel and silver on the small screen. However, it does beg the question of which actor is going to assume the mantle of the legendary monster slayer. To that, we humbly submit these three awesome gents for consideration!
#3: Karl Urban
He speared his fair share of orcs over the course of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, not to mention brought the darkness and grit back to the character of Dredd. Slaying the likes of necrophages, spectres and all manner of other horrific beasts should be a walk in the park. In all seriousness, given his history for bringing beloved fantasy icons to life, we feel that Mr Urban could do a stellar job of exploring the the Witcher’s dark origins and exploits.
2:Â Joe Manganiello
First and foremost, Geralt is an unrelenting badass known for bringing down nightmarish creatures. In that regard, who better to play him than Deathstroke? Given his performances in shows like True Blood, we see this old school D&D player easily managing to portray both the grizzled warrior as well as the Continent’s greatest wooer. After all, this Witcher is well known for being both a beast on the streets and between the sheets!
#1: Mads Mikkelsen
In Hannibal, he played a captivating yet oh so terrifying entity that was the furthest thing from human. In The Hunt, he gave us a performance filled with so much vulnerability and heartbreak that we were constantly on the verge of tears. Both aspects are essential in bringing the character of Geralt to life, and we feel that with his experience Mr Mikkelsen would be able to give us an iteration of the Witcher that truly captures the monster within the man.
