Avengers 4 will be the end of an era in more ways than one. Aside from being the conclusion of a 22-movie arc, it may be the last time we see some of our favorite Avengers. Speaking with The New York Times, Chris Evans opened up about the future of Steve Rogers, aka Captain America. While it’s not official yet, the actor believes that Avengers 4 will be his last outing as the character.
“You want to get off the train before they push you off,” Evans explained.
Since making his MCU in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, Evans has taken center stage in Captain America: The Winter Solider and Captain America: Civil War. He’s also popped up in several other Marvel films, including The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, and Spider-Man: Homecoming. He’s set to play an integral role in Avengers: Infinity War, which comes out on April 27, 2018.
Based on the trailer for the third Avengers movie, it’s been speculated that Captain America might bite the dust while going up against the villainous Thanos. Could Evans be hinting that Cap will die in either Infinity War or the fourth Avengers movie? On WatchMojo’s list of the Top 10 Marvel Characters Who Are Most Likely to Die in Phase 3, Captain American came in at #2. At least he appears to be safer than Iron Man, who we ranked #1.
Speaking of Iron Man, actor Robert Downey, Jr. also talked about his MCU retirement in 2017 while speaking with Australiaâs News.com. As he put it, “I just want to hang up my jersey before itâs embarrassing.”
In any case, all will be made clear when Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3, 2019… assuming Marvel doesn’t push the release date up.
