Nowhere To Go But Down!
By far one of the greatest anime series to hit the small screen last year, Made in Abyss took our breath away with its meshing of dazzling visuals, adorable character models and a surprisingly visceral narrative. This newcomer may have given us a spoonful of moe in the form of our innocent lead characters, but Riko and Reg’s journey to the bottom of the Abyss was nonetheless one filled with all manner of heartbreak, danger and darkness. The gruesome consequences of their mission both chilled and enraptured us, and we honestly can’t wait to see more!
While we have no doubt the upcoming second season will give us everything we could want, if we had to be picky, we’re hoping that these facets are particular prominent as our group heads down even deeper into the Abyss.
Fair warning, there are MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!
#3: More Nanachi Goodness
As the newest member of the group, the Hollow known as Nanachi proved to be the series’ most endearing character, not only because of her immense fluffiness but also of her heartbreaking past. Being experimented on, watching her beloved Mitty be reduced to a blob of flesh, spending so many years trying help her friend find a peaceful death, she certainly didn’t have an easy life. Her complexities and dry wit were a much welcome addition, so we’re hoping the series sees fit to keep her on as a permanent member, one who manages to survive the remainder of this haunting adventure.
#2: More Ozen Awesomeness
A true force of nature who served as the harshest of mentors, the Immovable Sovereign stole every scene she was in during the early stage of Riko and Reg’s journey. Her friendship with Riko’s mother, her demonic tendencies and super strength cemented her as the biggest badass in the Abyss. Alas, she was only with us for a handful of episodes, and in that time we really didn’t get to see her go all out with her fighting prowess. As such, we’re hoping we see her cut loose later on and beat the seven bells out some giant creatures or maybe even a certain masked White Whistle…
#1: More Bondrewd Evilness
Speaking of which. As much as we despise this sick scientist for what he did to Nanachi and Mitty, we still can’t wait to see more of his wicked deeds. His lack of empathy has painted him as the perfect foil for our lovable trio, and we have a feeling that things are going to all go to hell when both parties finally meet. That being said, we don’t want the series to skip out on Bondrewd’s villainy. Give us the twisted animal that won’t hesitate to hurt children in all his glory, explore every aspect of his warped mindset, at least then we’ll have a better understanding of what kind of monster he is before he gets blow away by Reg’s incinerator.
