We Don’t Know What Just Happened But It Was Awesome!
Downloadable content has proven to be a tricky subject to navigate in modern day gaming. Sometimes they are grossly underwhelming, other times they lend themselves to the horrors of micro-transactions. However, if you’re exceptionally lucky, you’ll find yourself with DLC that’s on par with the original game. Of course, its unfortunately rare these days to find yourself graced with an Undead Nightmare or Blood and Wine.
That’s not to say additional campaigns such of these have to be filled to the brim with content and be twenty hours long to be enjoyed. Every now and again, all you need is s bizarre concept and a serious amount of self-deprecating humor to forge a DLC experience that every player can get behind. In that regard, these three are more than worth the cost!
#3: “Borderlands 2: Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep” (2013)
Granted, the battle against Handsome Jack was already filled with enough crazy characters and insane firefights, but this little number definitely managed to take the mad crown. Essentially, players find themselves caught amidst a D&D style fantasy adventure narrated by Tiny Tina. For those that are well acquainted with Tina, then you’ll know that she likes her stories as explosive as possible. Honestly, her imagination is so out there it might be more dangerous than the Warrior.
#2: “Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon” (2013)
After the metaphysical musings, moral crises and unrelenting viciousness found in the original game, it’s nice to know that the guys over at Ubisoft still know how to have fun. There’s no Vaas to be found here, only a complete saturation of everything 80s. As cybernetic soldier with more puns than sense, players have to take down running zombies, robot dinosaurs and more cheesiness than they know what to do with. Everything about this cheeky homage is glorious!
#1: “Saints Row IV: Enter The Dominatrix” (2013)
You would have thought that dealing with psycho-gimps and sentient raptors while they sing Walk The Dinosaur would have been enough for this DLC, but you’d be dead wrong. Not only do the Saints give us some of their lewdest and crudest content to date, but the whole thing is framed as a documentary illuminating how and why this deleted footage didn’t make it into Saints Row IV. If you thought the battle with Zinyak had its ludicrous moments, trust us, this little adventure is essentially the nirvana of fourth wall breaks.
