Don’t Get On Their Bad Side
While many can’t wait to see what new anime the summer sun will bring, there’s no denying that the past season has had its fair share of stars. With crazy characters lighting up the screen at every turn, Spring’s leading ladies not only have quirkiness coming out of their ears, but many of them had some truly entertaining dark sides!
It’s not very often you see a red panda singing heavy metal or a tiny gunslinger dressed in all pink, but we’ll be damned if they haven’t managed to win us over with their hilarious plights!
#3: Narumi Momose
“Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku” (2018)
A heartfelt romance series with plenty of realism to it, this honest portrayal of a secret nerd trying to find love in an office space certainly hits home for many. At the helm of the feels train is none other than Narumi, a dedicated otaku determined to keep her passions a secret in order to succeed in her new career. As it happens, an old acquaintance of hers who also has nerdy tendencies works in the same building, leading to all manner of adorable interactions. Outlandish, dry-witted and cute in equal measure, no job should be without a Narumi!
#2:Â Karen Kohiruimaki
“Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online” (2018)
In the real-world, this introvert is nothing more than an irregularly tall young woman who has a major issue with her height. However, in the virtual reality of Gun Gale, she’s a pint-sized Pink Devil who can shoot down other players in the blink of an eye. Going by the name of LLENN, Karen quickly rises through the ranks as an adorable yet lightning fast beast on the battlefield whose size and obsession with pink somehow only makes her even deadlier. Move aside Asuna.
#1: Retsuko
“Aggretsuko” (2018)
Stuck in a dead-end job with a misogynistic boss, coworkers who don’t understand her and seemingly no direction, all Retsuko can do is deal with the struggles of life one day at a time. How does she manage to unload all of that emotional baggage? Heavy metal karaoke of course. With a talent for turning her frustrations into some epic verses, Retsuko isn’t only hilarious when it comes to her rage-filled outbursts, but despite being a red panda is probably one of modern anime’s most relatable protagonists.
