Don’t Mess With An Amazon
We can’t wait to see Gal Gadot suit up in her iconic bracelets for the Wonder Woman sequel, after all she’s easily the best thing to come out of the DCEU. Hopefully it can still channel her tenderness and badassery in the same manner as the original did. That being said, we can’t forget that before Gadot took the mantle of the Amazon princess, there were several other talented actresses who held the title!
#5: Lucy Lawless
“Justice League: The New Frontier” (2008)
That’s right, Xena had her turn as Wonder Woman. Not really surprising given their joint status as some of the most iconic female characters to come out of fiction. There are certainly a lot less homosexual undertones in her portrayal, given how the film is a celebration of the Silver Age of comics, but she still more than manages to embody the amazon in her glory days as an interdependent woman unafraid to punch a Nazi in the face!
#4: Gina Torres
“Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths” (2010)
We’re technically cheating here. Vanessa Marshall certainly puts in a great performance as the actual Wonder Woman in this dimension-hopping animated adventure, but we can’t help but be captivated by her evil counterpart. As a mass murdering, sultry fighter who isn’t afraid to kiss Batman while breaking his ribs, Gina Torres’ role as Superwoman will have you captivated by just how violent she can be…yet you can’t help be fall for that smile of hers.
#3: Vanessa Marshall
“Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox” (2013)
Whereas she did a decent job playing the hero, where Ms Marshall truly shone was as this corrupted and murderous version of everyone’s favourite Amazon. After Flash changes the timeline for the worse, we find that Wonder Woman is at war with Atlantis after killing its Queen…because she was caught having an affair with Aquaman. Envious, bitter and prone to strangling foes with her lasso, this is the antithesis of everything the character stands for. As such, it’s a marvel to watch!
#2: Keri Russell
“Wonder Woman” (2009)
In what many consider to be the best adaptation of Wonder Woman’s origin, Keri Russell manages to portray every single facet of the iconic hero in a way that makes her as badass as she is compassionate. Watching her relationship develop with Steve Trevor, the way in which she teaches a young girl to defend herself, the mad skills she demonstrates when dispatching Cheetah, it’s all quintessential Diana. We can’t help but see a little of this performance in Gal Gadot!
#1: Susan Eisenberg
“Justice League/Other” (2001-)
For many, Susan Eisenberg IS Wonder Woman. Whether it’s her ongoing role throughout Justice League and Justice League Unlimited or one of her appearances in animated features such as Justice League: Doom and Batman/Superman: Apocalypse, Ms Eisenberg has channelled the heroism, honesty and authenticity of the character with each and every performance. Whether its in her solo outings or as part of an ensemble, there’s no other voice we associate with Wonder Woman more than this talented actress’.
