From Krypton To Kaer Morhen
When news emerged that Henry Cavill was a fan of the Witcher series, the internet went wild, imagining what the Man of Steel actor would look like under the guise of gaming’s greatest monster hunter. Who could have guessed that he had actually been cast four months earlier and was merely leading us on? Fans are nonetheless ecstatic that the star of Mission Impossible: Fallout gets the chance to live his fanboy dream of playing Geralt, renewing faith that this Netflix adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s book series can actually succeed.
According to an article on IGN –
“Henry Cavill has always been the first choice to portray Geralt of Rivia, according The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich.
Cavill, who has been officially cast as Geralt in the upcoming Netflix series, met with Hissrich to discuss the role four months ago in late April, the showrunner confirmed on Twitter.
Hissrich also made sure to express her excitement about Cavill joining the project, saying “he has always been” the White Wolf in her eyes.
Cavill also shared the news with a playful Instagram image of his new Netflix user name, Geralt of Rivia, while also revealing his new mailing address is now in Kaer Morhen Valley.
Cavill’s interview with IGN last month was the first time he publicly expressed interest in The Witcher role. But you’ve got to admire his poker face – Cavill gave no indication that he’d met with Hissrich about playing Geralt at the time.”
With the series set for release sometime in 2020, we’re a little ways off from seeing Cavill don the steel and silver swords of the legendary Witcher. However, now that we’ve seen his enthusiasm for the role, we can’t wait to see him start hacking apart Grave Hags and working that gruff charm on the Northern Kingdoms’ femme fatales.
