Bye Bye Black Hood
After leaving our jaws on the floor with the eventful Season 2 finale back in May, the CW’s “Riverdale” is finally back tonight with a new season that has us more curious than ever. Not only are we hoping for some loose ends to be tied up considering the way things were left, but the mood conveyed in the Season 3 trailer featured at this year’s Comic Con, left us wondering whether this new season will bring about any fresh beginnings and unique character arcs, or whether the show will continue following the dark path that’s been paved by previous seasons. While we wait in anticipation for the premiere tonight, here are 5 things we hope to see in Season 3:
Since weâll be discussing major events from the showâs first two seasons, a *SPOILER ALERT* is in order.
#5: A New Mystery
Letâs be real, the mystery in Season 1 (who killed Jason Blossom and why?) was a little more compelling than the Black Hood plotline of Season 2. Now that the Black Hood has been unmasked, however, itâs pretty clear that weâre going to get a brand new whodunnit for the new season. At this point, itâs impossible to predict what direction the writers are going to take the story, but weâre hoping itâs something a little simpler, as opposed to the convoluted plotlines of the second season.
#4: A Sabrina Crossover Episode
Youâve probably heard about the âChilling Adventures of Sabrina,â which was originally conceived as a companion show to âRiverdale.â Of course, this could have meant some amazing crossover content, however, the odds of this actually happening dropped significantly when the new âSabrinaâ show was ordered straight to Netflix, rather than appearing on the CW. Regardless, according to TVLine’s article, executive producer Jon Goldwater said in 2018 that the shows were “two separate entities for right now,” but “would love it if they could figure out a way to cross over.”
#3: Closure on Chic
One of the most contentious storylines introduced in âRiverdale”âs second season concerned Bettyâs maybe brother, Chic. Whether you loved this plot or hated it, Chic took up much of the drama of Season 2, with his murdering of strangers and the eventual reveal that he wasnât actually related to the Coopers at all. His final appearance on the show came a few episodes before the season actually ended, and his fate what left somewhat ambiguous. To be honest, weâre hoping he isnât a huge part of Season 3, but weâd like some closure on his story.
#2: Bughead and Choni Forever
There are a lot of great couples to ship on this show but from the start, Betty and Jughead, affectionately known as Bughead, have been a fan favorite. Now that Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart have gone public with their real-life relationship, weâre crossing our fingers that their characters on the show can settle down a little and just revel in how in love they are. They have been on again and off again and dealt with more than their fair share of problems, but we know that theyâre totally endgame. So, letâs just be happy, okay?
Speaking of fan favorite couples, Toni and Cheryl’s relationship was one that viewers couldnât have possibly seen coming, but totally knocked our socks off. They didnât really have any interactions for much of the showâs run, but as soon as they encountered one another, things took off between them quickly. Fans were understandably furious when the âChoniâ scenes were inexplicably cut from the musical episode, and it just goes to show how much viewers are rooting for these two. In Season 3, we know weâll be seeing more of this new and exciting pairing.
#1: Betty’s Darkness
As you may or may not have predicted, at the end of Season 2 Bettyâs dad, Hal, was revealed to be the Black Hood (or at least one of them). His motivations were questionable, but this storyline was seemingly tied up in the final episodes. Hal is in prison now (and considering his actions, probably will be for the rest of the showâs run), but our question is how this will affect the Coopers, in particular Betty. Hal claims that the darkness that runs through his veins is present in her too, and we have a feeling this will play a part in the new seasons, even without “Dark Betty”. Lili Reinhart recently shared in an interview with Teen Vogue that her dark wig and lingerie wearing days are over. She felt that this corrupt version of an otherwise unblemished Betty Cooper became a “punchline”, going on to say, âIt was supposed to be this dark side of her that she wasnât able to express otherwise, and it just became this weird sexual thing that people didnât really understand.â I guess we’ll have to wait and see how her inner demons show themselves this season.
