Is Pirates Of The Carribean Getting A Reboot?

Farewell Captain Jack Sparrow

We all remember when we were first introduced to the likes of Johnny Depp’s now iconic pirate portryal. With a blend of drunken hilarity, undeniable luck and curious sense of honor, the swashbuckling scallywag instantly won us over in Curse of the Black Pearl. Unfortunately, as time went on, sequelitis began to set in until there’s very little fun left to be had in the franchise, despite the amount of awkward Jack Sparrow moments along the way. With the well running dry, it seems that Hollywood is inching closer to pressing the infamous reset button.

Not content with turning all of its animated classics into live-action movies (or live-CG blends/all-photorealistic CG outings), Disney is now hovering its finger above the Do-Over button for the Pirates Of The Caribbean movie series. Deadpool writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are in talks to work on the script.

Despite the Pirates series earning more than $4 billion since it kicked off with 2003’s The Curse Of The Black Pearl, the need to refresh may partly be because the more recent movies have become so utterly convoluted. There’s also a chance the Mouse House is looking to paddle quietly away from Johnny Depp, whose Captain Jack Sparrow helped make the films mostly huge hits, but who has acquired a more controversial reputation these days.

While we can all agree that On Stranger Tides and Dead Men Tell No Tales were seriously lacking in the creativity department, it will be sad to see the Jack Sparrow we’ve come to know and love drift away. Then again, if they can do it for Spider-Man and Hellboy, maybe’s there’s a chance that Pirates 2.0 could end up taking what made the original so great and duplicate it successful. Either way, best not skip the rum.
