It Means No Worries, Until July 19
2019 is the year of Disney live-action remakes and with the recent Aladdin buzz subsiding, a new trailer for “The Lion King” came through and garnered some fairly split reactions. The trailer itself reveals more of the “live-action”-esque CG animation that fans questioned, with the introduction of characters we know and love, from Mufasa’s opening monologue, to quick clips of Zazu, a chilling stampede scene, glimpses of Rafiki, a classic walking montage of Timone, Pumbaa and Simba, a short and sweet look at Nala and of course, numerous encounters with the film’s villain: Scar. Before we dive into the countless hot takes and mixed reactions online, take a look at the trailer below!
Is the computer generated recreation an improvement, a downgrade or simply a new interpretation worth a chance? According to the Twitter reactions below, fans of the original Disney animated film are pretty split. Some are purely excited to see their favorite characters back on the big screen, especially with the solid cast update including Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner and Beyoncé! Others, on the other hand, are disappointed with the trailer’s lack of dialogue and question the ability of realistic animal CG animation to convey as much emotion and vibrant color as the Disney classic. Take a look at the reactions below!
The Lion King CGI looks incredible but did we really need a remake with no expression and worse line delivery pic.twitter.com/HNB93jQS03

I’m all for the lion king remake, (mostly because of Donald Glover), but these two pictures highlight how having live action cartoon characters restricts the portrayal of emotion, I mean just look at the picture of scar in the original photo compared to the new one #TheLionKing pic.twitter.com/aFpREnNzY3

Saw the Lion King trailer, and I feel there’s not a whole lot of emotion in the animals?

I get they dont emote much IRL, but that kinda fucks your emotional scenes when Simba has the same emotion from talking to his friend to losing his dad and having to leave forever. pic.twitter.com/KQrFUe9xLz
lol thereâs only one dialogue shot in the new LION KING trailer because photorealistic animals speaking perfect English looks dumb as hell

I kinda wish the Lion King trailer ended with Nala telling Scar that âitâs better for you to go home than to not have luggageâ but what can you do.
